WOW!! What a great Shag Club and we are just getting started. The ODSC will be making quite a few appearances during the spring and summer months. The board will be hard at work planning some additional events this year to get the word out to people who do not know what the club does for the community. There are so many hearts we have not touched with the music and shag dancing. We encourage attendance because as members, we should be making our presence known all over North Myrtle Beach. Notification email will be sent out and please check your events calendar regularly on the website and make plans to attend as many as possible. We don’t want you to miss a thing!!
On April 4th from 10am until 2pm at Graham’s Golf Cars on Main St. Your Beach Music.Com will be there along with members of our Dance Team. We will be selling our Golf Cart Fund Raiser tickets and would love for you to stop by and see the cart, maybe stay a while, listen to the music.
SOS is almost here!!! It begins on April 17th and goes thru the 26th. We will be having our brunch on the 19th 10am at the OD Arcade and the SOS Parade on the 25th at 1pm on Main St. Please get with Billy Powell and sign up for the Parade, we need more participation every year.
We had a fantastic turnout for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade on March 14th despite the rainy weather. Congratulations to the ODSC for winning 3rd Place Non-Profit. Everyone had a good time before during and after the Parade. Thanks to Billy Powell and his worker bees for all their hard work getting us there, as well as keeping us organized and that is not an easy job!!
The Luck of the Irish Party on March 21st was FUN FUN FUN!! Thanks to the food committee along with their worker bees for making the Shepherd’s Pie and also to all the members that brought a side dish or dessert. Entertainment did great keeping the dance floor full the entire party with their dance game. It wasn’t hard to keep people dancing because DJ David Harris was playing great shag music.
MB Manor was on March 30th and as always, that is so rewarding for the ODSC. Joe Ferlauto is very dedicated to keeping it interesting for the residence. Joe planned two full hours of entertainment for them and a terrific time was had by all!!
Hope to see you at the ODSC Board Meeting on April 7th 6pm in Fat Harold’s back room.

The “Luck of the Irish” party was held Saturday March 21st at Fat Harold’s. The club members brought out their green attire and enjoyed a very decorated setting of pots of gold, shamrocks and Leprechauns.
Over 140 members enjoyed the efforts of Jim and Wanda Queen, Steve and Nancy Queen, Susan and Kevin Harrell, Wendy Schultz and Faye Chowning ‘s Shepard’s Pie. It was a great hit and the members brought many great sides and deserts so no one went home hungry.
David Harris kept the dance floor busy and the entertainment committee came up with a great way of getting our members to dance with people they don’t even know. Offer beads and money and you will see many people on the dance floor. It was a fun evening ending with Wanda Queen winning the 50/50.

OD Shag Club Models
OD Shag Club Dance Team
The OD Shag Club Dance Demo Team was asked to perform at the Belk’s Girls Night Out Fashion Show on March 12, 2015 located at Belk’s in North Myrtle Beach at 5PM.
This event was different than other events that we have danced to since the members of the dance team and other members of the OD Shag Club were asked to participate in Belk’s Fashion Show.
Belk’s provided snacks and wine. There was a raised platform or run way for the models and they even provided us with a DJ-Scott Shaw.
Among the 15 Models were our own four Special Models Tina Tomberlin, Linda Campbell, Barbara Harper and Monica Powell. It wasn’t known how much talent our Shag Club has until we saw how well these models strutted their stuff.
After the fashion show the OD Shag Club Dance Team was asked to dance for the audience. Thanks to the members of the dance team who performed: Terry and Kathy McCoy; Joe Ferlauto and Barbara Harper; Lou Martino and Linda Campbell.
It was also nice to have many members of the OD Shag Club come and support the Demonstration. Thanks to our President Wendy Schultz and past President Karen Young and all the other members who showed up to support our Team.
A special thanks to Cindy Day for asking the dance team to dance for The Belk’s Girls Night Out Fashion Show.
Linda Morrison Heidi Cross
I hope that most of you have had the pleasure of meeting our Membership Chairperson, Linda Morrison. Linda does a fantastic job of keeping our ever growing membership straight! She keeps up with new members, birthdays, renewals, committee volunteers and many other items.
Linda moved to NMB from Richmond, Virginia in 2008. Her hubby, not her hubby at the time, moved to NMB in 2007 and they tried a long distance romance. Romance was not to be denied so she moved and they married in 2009. Linda was a member of the ODSC in 2000 for one year, since she was at the beach so often, but as soon as she moved here permanently, she joined the Club. In addition to her club duties, Linda is a computer analyst for Northrup Grumman Corporation.
When you are new in a town, you wonder how to meet people. I know that I did and Linda felt the same. She was hoping to make a lot of new friends when she joined the Club. One way to do that is to volunteer. Linda has served on the Entertainment/Decoration Committee and Hospitality Committee. She has been the chairperson for Entertainment/Decorating Committee and now is our Membership Guru. What a great way to meet new people!
Linda’s favorite OD Shag Club party is the Halloween Party. If you know Linda, you will understand. She is an excellent costume designer. I remember seeing her as an M & M along with some other shag club members. Her favorite costume was when she and Brian dressed up as shag shoes. Boy, that Brian is a good sport! I would love to see them dance as shag shoes to their favorite shag song, “Satisfy My Soul”.
Linda has a great group of helpers when she needs them. Her team consists of Heidi Cross, Beth Cribb, Millie Patton, Robert Schwelus, Betty Ann (BA) Sharpe, Jan Rink, Bill Van Steenburg, Bill Joerger, Joyce and Geoff Girling!
Hey everybody! It is time once again for our golf cart fundraiser! Isn’t it beautiful? Terry McCoy is our Chairperson for this fund raiser and he has great plans for our ticket sales.
Terry will be sending out a note for us to sign up to sell tickets at SOS in the parking lot of Fat Harold’s and based on the looks of this cart, they should almost sell themselves.
Join us to make this the best fundraiser ever!

Our mission is to promote and preserve the South Carolina Shag Dance through out our community and show variations of the Dance in an instructional and enjoyable way.
Our demonstrations vary upon request and location. We are available anytime, any place, anywhere. We have performed as well as taught for as few as 6 individuals to as many as over 450. Locations have been from the small fellowship hall of a church to large conference centers. In our presentation we take the audience from early shag, swing and onto current shag. In that we also have team members that show that shag can be a dance for the young AND the “young-at-heart”! Also we show group dance in our ladies dance in a line with Lou Martino demonstrating several technique steps. Always at the end we involve “crowd” participation” to end the presentation with everyone “enjoying the dance and dancing like no one is watching”! We hold special classes for those in attendance who want to learn more about the Shag Dance. We are excited to demo at any and all venues.
The OD Shag Club formed a Dance Demo Team March 2013 consisting of Lou Martino and Linda Campbell, as organizers. Other team members range in ages from 18-92 years old, demonstrating that the SC State Dance is for all ages.
St. Patrick’s Day Parade
OD Shag Club
By: Monica Powell
It was a rainy and gloomy Saturday morning, but that did not stop the OD Shag Club from being in the annual North Myrtle Beach St. Patrick’s Day Parade. We had 67 people in the event and 18 golf carts. Billy Powell and Rich Young led the group as our banner carriers and they did a fine job!
As we passed the Judge’s stand, the Emcee’s said they wanted to see someone shag. Joe Ferlauto and Lou Garrenton did us all proud as they shagged in the front of the Judge’s stand. They were fantastic, even though Joe’s green wig was starting to drip green dye down the side of his face. Cindy Day and Joe Ferlauto walked the parade route and kept the crowd going with their bead throwing as our 18 carts followed with our green flying!
With all the carts decorated beautifully and everyone in their best green, the OD Shag Club brought home 3rd place in the Nonprofit Group! Many thanks to Bob Klimas for donating all his parade pictures to the Shag Club. Thank you Bob!
Well, February is over and I hope that means the cold weather is too. March is the month when we get an additional hour of daylight on the 8th and the first day of Spring is on the 20th. I’m ready to get some warm temperatures around here.
Another terrific Oyster Roast!! Thanks to all the 200 plus members that attended. A big thank you goes to the OD Arcade for letting us come in and pretty much take over the place for a few hours. They are all wonderful people, they make sure we are taken care of at all times. Donnie Schultz and the all the guys did a great job from start to finish, along with help from Faye Chowning and Dolly McDermott. The oysters were bought from Berry’s Seafood and the Chicken Bog was made by Jack at Harold’s. Cindy Day and her hospitality bunch did a fantastic job with her speedy check in. Beth Cornwell had her little Ways and Means store set up in the corner selling Lucky Shucker Shirts and winter apparel. Tootie Brown was playing some great music and the place was packed with smiling faces.
We have our Board Meeting on March 3rd 6pm in the back room of Fat Harold’s. This is a great opportunity for members to know what is going on with their club and especially if you are a new member, you can meet the Board and Committee Chairs. Hope to see you there.
Get out those St. Patrick’s Day decorations because on March 14th “It’s Parade Time!!!!” This is my personal favorite Parade of the year. Billy Powell (Parade Chair) will be sending out information by email and if you have any questions, you can email or call him.
Our March 21st Party will be a good one! We haven’t had an Irish Party for many years. The Club will be providing Shepherds Pie and rolls, while members will be asked to bring your best side dish or dessert. Entertainment has something special planned, so make sure you wear your dancing shoes with that favorite St. Patrick’s Day outfit.
P.S. Are you ready for SOS?
It’s just around the corner
