It was a fine evening to be inside or outside at Swillies Hideaway in North Myrtle Beach on May 16, as evidenced by the number of golf carts and cars that filled the parking lot and street.

The club provided all of the food and fixings for 164 members and 10 guests who enjoyed a cookout of hamburgers and hotdogs. Thanks to our grillmasters, things moved along smoothly and everyone had plenty to eat. After dinner, the cornhole tournament quickly got underway, with lots of enthusiastic party people tossing bean bags back and forth, trying to get them to land in the hole or on the board to score. Finally, after elimination of all of the other teams, Debbie and Bill emerged as the winners!

John Tilton was the lucky winner of the 50/50 drawing, graciously donating half of his winnings back to the club, while Grover Godwin’s name was drawn as the nametag winner. Bill Bacon, looking good in one of the club’s dress camp shirts in light blue, won the prize for logo apparel. These good looking shirts come in red, black, light blue or crème, and if you don’t have one yet, Beth Cornwell, Ways & Means Committee Chair, will be happy to order one for you.

While many people continued to mingle and socialize outside until dark, a crowd also gathered on the dance floor to shag the night way. I had a great time and I hope you did too.

On May 2, 19 members of the O D Shag Club and some guests, showed up at the O D Pavilion for the Clean Sweep. After eating we cleaned from the Pavilion north and south ocean 5 blocks, north and south on Ocean Blvd. 5 blocks and Main Street from Ocean Blvd. to Hillside. A great time was had by all. DSCN3619Ladies and Gentlemen! Children of All Ages! Come one; come all to see the Greatest Show on Sand (SOS). See the caravan of animals and all that’s strange! See what’s under the big top! See the clowns! See our vendors! That was the cry from our Ring Master as the O.D. Shag Club rolled out for the 2015 SOS Spring Safari Parade.

What a spectacle it was! Our circus theme was nothing short of awesome. As always the O.D. Shag Club put on a great show for all the spectators who lined the streets and braved the uncertain weather to watch the annual parade. While it rained earlier in the morning as we were making final preparations to our float, when the Parade began to roll down Main Street the rain stopped. Can’t rain on our Parade!!

Please make sure you check out the pictures from the parade that are posted on our website. When you do you will see evidence of what a talented group of members we have. The golf cart transformations and costumes were so creative; you could tell the thought and effort put into it by each and every one!

A big thank you to our Parade Chairperson Billy Powell, his assistant Monica Powell and everyone on the committee for all the planning and hard work they put into making this annual event a success. And what a success it was…..once again the O.D. Shag Club took home 1st Place in the Best Troupe category.

Congratulations to everyone who participated and spent their Saturday afternoon “just clowning around!” View Photos

Letter From the President May 2015

April was a busy month for the Shag Club and this is absolutely wonderful. I am so excited that the ODSC continues to introduce the dance and music throughout the community and we are being recognized for doing so. All the Club News from the month is listed on the website along with pictures from each event.

Thanks to everyone that came out and helped with the committees during SOS Spring Safari. Whether you gave your time to the Ways and Means Tent, Golf Cart Fundraiser Tent, Hospitality, Food, 50/50 at the Brunch, Dance Team or merely talked about the club to friends, we appreciate all that you do for the ODSC.

It’s Clean Sweep Time, on Saturday May 2nd at 8:30 and hope to see you there. We will be serving breakfast to all that volunteer their morning to clean the beach and streets after SOS.

The ODSC Business Meeting will be held in the back of Fat Harold’s on May 5th and all members are invited to attend. If you have never been to a meeting, it is very educating to see how the club works.

The Golf Cart Fundraiser has been out and about in April, starting with Graham’s Golf Cars and continuing
through the week of SOS. We will have the ODSC tent set up on Main Street May 9th, during May Fest, stop by and get your tickets!!

On Saturday May 16th we will be having our Cookout at Swillie’s 6pm. The club is providing hamburgers, hot dogs, all the fixings and sides, with a little dessert for that sweet tooth. Bring your chairs because there will be a Corn Hole Tournament and for those in the mood for some dancing, the DJ will be playing inside.
Keep dancing my friends,

Wendy Schultz

DSCN3393Hope everyone who attended enjoyed the OD Shag Club Brunch that was held on Sunday, April 19th at the OD Arcade and Lounge. We had a wonderful turnout and it was nice to see all those smiling faces so early in the morning. The Hospitality and Food Committee did a good job moving the lines as quick as possible. They make a great team!! Ways and Means were selling 50/50 tickets, congrats to Lou Garrenton for being the winner of the drawing.

A big thank you goes to Chris and his team at the Arcade for preparing a fantastic breakfast, they open up early just for us and work so hard to assure a pleasent experience. We had some great entertainment starting with Murl Augustine as our DJ, along with our spotlight dancers, Kevin and Susan Harrell. The other scheduled entertainment was not able to attend due to illness, but lucky for us, Paul Craver was very generous with his time and performed a couple of songs.
Thank you to all that participated in making this happen, we couldn’t do it without your help. I’m looking forward to the Brunch at Fall Migration in September!!
