I am asking for your vote and support to serve as your President for 2024. My wife, Connie, and I joined the OD Shag Club shortly after moving here in 2017. For us, two of the main attractions of this area were shag dancing and the great people we met in North Myrtle Beach. We started coming to SOS in 2010 and never missed a Fall Migration or Spring Safari. Since joining the Club, I have had the pleasure of serving as Vice President and two terms as Secretary. I have also served as Co-Chair, with Connie, of the Myrtle Beach Manor Holiday Party and have volunteered with the Ways and Means Committee, the Golf Tournament Committee, the Charity Fun Run and several other Club activities and events. Prior to moving here, Connie and I were active in the Cincinnati Bop Club, where we both served on the Board/Steering Committee for several years.
As for my background, I retired in 2019 as the senior vice president & general counsel of a health system in Cincinnati. Prior to that position, I served as associate general counsel of a university and as a partner in two law firms. I am also a retired Marine with 30 years of active and reserve service, including a combat tour in Iraq in 2004.
Volunteer positions I have held include Chairman of the Board of the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, Commissioner and Vice Chairman of the Northern Kentucky Convention & Visitors Bureau, Chairman of the Northern Kentucky Consensus Committee and member of the Board of Directors of both the Tri-County Economic Development Corporation and The Point/ARC of Northern Kentucky, Inc.
I hope you will give me your support. I look forward to getting to know many of you better, making new friends and giving my best effort for the Club.
I am very pleased and honored to run for Vice President of the OD Shag Club.
We joined the ODSC after moving to NMB in 2012. Prior to the move, we lived in Charlotte, NC and were members of the Monroe Shag Club from 1997-2014. While being a member of the Monroe Shag Club, I served as President, Vice President and Secretary. I also received the Monroe Shag Club Go-Getter Award and the Monroe Shag Club Icon Award. I was the co-chair of the SOS Parade Committee for 5 years.
After becoming a member of the OD Shag Club, I have served on various committees and worked many a booth for the club. I served the ODSC as:
I retired from Wachovia in Charlotte as a Senior Vice President. I have attended many ACSC events and meetings and have always admired how much participation there is by the ODSC. I am very glad to be a member of this club and will work hard to ensure I help maintain and grow all the wonderful events and help with new events for this great club.
My name is Beth Cornwell and I am nominated for the office of secretary. I am so looking forward to serving in that office again!! I served in this office in 2020, but that was the year everything shut down for Covid. All board meetings were held by conference calls and club events were held by drive thru! It will be nice doing this office having meetings and events in person! After a couple years of traveling with my husband, I’m now ready to being active as your secretary.
We moved to North Myrtle Beach in 2011 and we joined the club in 2012. I have made many friends and met lots of people by serving as chairperson of the ways and means committee and the hospitality committee. I also have been able to participate in many activities such as the different parades, clean sweep, golf cart fun run, visiting Myrtle Beach Manor and the annual golf tournament. I have also served as treasurer of the shag club. Before moving to the beach I was active in Bopper’s Shag Club and Twisters Shag Club near Charlotte.
I look forward to meeting the new members in the club and establishing more friendships. With your vote, I will be honored to serve again as secretary of the OD Shag Club.
I worked for the Maryland State Fire Marshals Office as a Fire Investigator and retired after 20 years. I’m a Life Member of the Aberdeen Fire Department with over 40 years of service. During those years I served on the Board of Directors as Treasurer for 20 consecutive years.
After retirement my wife Nancy and I built our house in Carolina Forest and moved to Myrtle Beach in 2012. After moving here we became familiar with the North Myrtle Beach area, Beach Music and Shag scene. We started taking lessons to learn the dance and joined the ODSC in 2018, where we continued to learn from Sonny and Tina.
We like participating in the Club functions and meeting the members. I was elected Treasurer in the year 2021 and I have enjoyed serving the Club for the past 3 years in a Board of Directors capacity. I’m looking forward to continuing serving the club as your Treasurer for 2024.
I would be honored to be on the OD Shag board. I have been a member for 3 years and thoroughly enjoy it. I have volunteered with golf cart sales, the golf tournament, oyster roast, and led the group with building the SOS parade float for the past two years.
I am a retiree with past experiences in the trucking industry, home building, optical, and owner of a bed and breakfast inn located in Western Carolina.
I met my wife in Carolina Beach who introduced me to Beach Music and taught me how to shag dance on top of the flybridge on my boat. We then moved to Little River and found this place to be our Lucky Charm.
I hope to be a positive asset to the OD Shag Club.
I am running for the position of Board Member at Large. Many of you know me as the “food lady” at our monthly food events. I am co-chair of the Food Committee along with Kathy and Terry McCoy. I have held this position for several years. I have also volunteered for the Hospitality committee, Ways and Means, Golf Ticket Sales, Fun Run, Golf Tournaments and I’ve enjoyed participating in painting and decorating our floats in the SOS parades.
I have served for the Chamber of Commerce in Jacksonville, Florida; taught adult literacy at the University of North Florida, taught business for the Department of Housing in Virginia, was a press secretary for the wife of a Virginia governor as well as planned state government events. When my child went away to college I returned to acting, and I have lived in 34 different states while having great fun making movies and comedy series.
When I retired to the Myrtle Beach area nine years ago, I was introduced to Fat Harold’s by a friend and fell in love with the dance, atmosphere, and camaraderie. I have made so many friends at Fat Harold’s, as well as SOS friends that we meet with each semester (as I call it). I love volunteering and working with all the committees. Dancing and volunteering for our club is a wonderful way to keep me young while helping the community.
Hello, I’m Jim Robinson, running for Member at Large of the Ocean Drive Shag Club (ODSC) Board of Directors for another two years. Sharon and I moved to North Myrtle Beach in July 2016, and we have been members of the club for nearly seven years. We’ve enjoyed learning to shag and participating in club events.
My volunteer work for the club, thus far, has included, Clean Sweep after SOS, food serving and cooking with the Food Committee, cooking at the annual Oyster Roast, working at the Fun Runs, and participating in the Myrtle Manor Christmas Party. As board liaison, I assist the Ways and Means Committee in the merchandise setup/tear down of their operation at events.
Lastly, I have been serving as the Chairman of the Golf Cart Raffle Committee for years 2022-2023 and have met our sales goal each year.
My wife Sharon and I are originally from Maryland. We have a son and a daughter and two grandchildren. We lived in Charlotte, NC for eleven years and upon retiring we decided to move to North Myrtle Beach and have not regretted it! We love the small town living in a vacation destination, with all the big city amenities. I go everywhere in my golf cart, which is all Panthered-up as I’m a fan and it’s easy to spot in a crowded beach parking lot. I walk my little schnoodle, Roxie, in McLean Park almost every day.
My career was in financial services, thirty years with Citigroup and its subsidiaries, in one capacity or another. I earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, Accounting and a Master’s in Business Administration, Finance from the University of Baltimore.
My past experiences as a board member included the Seacoast Anglers Association here in NMB and the RiverPointe Marina on Lake Wylie in Charlotte, NC.
It would be a privilege to continue to serve on the board of the ODSC because I enjoy the comradery of our members and appreciate the work that goes into making our club successful and enjoyable for all.
Thank you for your support.
I have been a member of ODSC since 2019 and since day 1 have been co-chair for Ways & Means. If I had to guess, I have probably sold over 1,300 items with the ODSC logo on it! As you can imagine, I have not had the time to work on other committees because I’m always selling ODSC merchandise!
I grew up in Maryland and graduated from UofM, College Park. After 5 moves in 12 years we ended up in Raleigh where I earned my Real Estate Brokers License and sold for 16 years. Moving to Wilmington I switched my real estate focus to the education sector and became certified by the NC Real Estate Commission to teach their courses and ultimately had a real estate school. In 2018 I moved to Grande Dunes and finally retired.
With over 700 members our club is one of the largest! I have been excited to see many new members step up on our committees and get involved. The growth of our club relies on maintaining our integrity and growth and as a Board member I will strive to continue this growth and enhance relationships.
Please consider giving me your vote for Board of Directors.
