On December 10, 2022, the OD Shag Club put on it’s annual Christmas Party/Fund and Food raiser at Fat Harold’s. What a night for the large crowd who were lucky enough to join us. Wearing their best Christmas party duds 250+ came to celebrate and do what they could to support our Christmas Family giving tradition. We danced, we ate a delicious meal provided by our caterer chosen by the exceptional team of Terry and Kathy McCoy and Paulette Miller. Our celebration meal was so good, and we had so many people we had to give out 2 extra colored tickets in addition to our regular 3. It was quite the feast and quite a wonderful night. Our group of Christmas elves dancers graced us with another of their elf dances to the delight of the crowd.

Given the generosity of our members and guest, we were able to provide our 5 Christmas families with Santa’s wish list, gifts, toys including several bikes and food galore. On Sunday morning some of your board members

assembled at the President’s home to divide all the food collected. Connie Pangburn, Linda Campbell and Donna Williams continued their day grocery shopping for the families with the money collected. Wow, what a haul and really fun. On Monday morning, your President and several board members happily delivered all the truck load of stuff to the school.

Thank you, OD Shag Club, to all who donated, and the Board members who separated and who delivered. It is an exceptionally good feeling to be a part of this major undertaking. Merry Christmas to all.

What a wonderful time everyone had at the Myrtle Beach Manor on Monday night! The OD Shag Club entertained over 30 residents of the Manor with singing, dancing and gifts. Such a humbling experience to talk and laugh with the residents and see them having fun. Thank you, Charlie and Connie for leading the event and the dancing, Bill for being the DJ, all the elves for their costumes and dancing, and Bernie for taking pictures. Thank you shag club members for participating in the event. Connie the “chicken dance” was a hit! One resident asked if Jim Robinson was part “Chicken.” Beautiful poinsettias and gift bags were given out to the residents at the conclusion. If you haven’t attended this event plan for next year! It was great.

2nd Beach Party

Due to popular demand, the 2nd Beach Party of 2022 was held September 13th. What a beautiful evening it was. With again 100+ in attendance, we felt the sand on our feet, the wind blowing through our hair and excitement in the air. We saw a lot of the same faces but also a bunch of new ones. JJ Kinlaw played our tunes and did a terrific job. He and I had planned a surprise and it turned out better than I thought it would. With the signal, Jay got on the speaker and asked everyone to get up in a circle and we were going to do a dance everyone knew. This great group did just that and then all of a sudden, a familiar tune came on and we all laughed and began to do the old dance from the past that we all loved The Hokey Pokey. If you have never seen 100+ barefoot people put in and take out body parts on the beach you should have been there. It was a real treat. Everyone was laughing and dancing and my heart puffed right up. How many times in your life can you get so much pleasure for free? Well, guys and girls stayed tuned for 2023 because if I have anything to do with it, we will be doing more of these beach parties. Looking forward to seeing you there. Bring your dancing feet.

The morning sky was Carolina Blue and with a crisp Fall feel but temperatures were warming up for a perfect day.  Before 10:00am, the members were lining up at the entrance door ready to get inside to begin what was to be one of our largest attended brunches.  Over 300+ people attended the brunch and unfortunately/fortunately, we ran out of food and, we could not feed ALL who attended.  It was so good to see so many shaggers out wanting to support the club AND enjoy themselves as a part of our club’s major event.

Charlie Glazer played our favorite tunes, as the colors were called for each one to line up in two separate lines to enjoy a full breakfast of eggs, bacon, sausage, grits, biscuits, and fruit.  Of course ,the highlight of the brunch is always our famous “Liquid Sunshine of Bloody Mary’s and Screwdrivers”.

Wayne Baldwin and Sue Wehner were very busy selling OD Shag Club merchandise as was Jim Robinson trying to sell the few Golf Cart Fundraiser tickets that he had left.   There were several guests at the brunch including those from the SOS and ACSC boards and we were honored to have them join us for breakfast.

The 50/50 winner was  announced, as well as the Name tag and Logo winners.

As the brunch ended, and members and guests left with most just walking across the street to the Fun Sunday event ,where Jim Quick and

Coastline were preparing to play.  This Sunday began to be a great start to the first full week of SOS Fall Migration 2022.

The Tournament was played as a “Captain’s Choice” with Mulligans available for purchase.  In addition to regular play, all golfers were given the opportunity to participate in individual contests that included Closest to the Center Line, Closest to the Pin, Longest (Wiffle) Ball Drive and Putting.   All participants were provided with a breakfast sandwich and donuts, a bag lunch and liquid refreshments.

August 23, 2022 we started something different for our new members and all our beach diehards. We had our 1st Dance Barefoot in the Sand Beach Party. With permission from the city and our great supporters Jessica and Harold Whorley providing the electricity for us, we started at 5pm behind the OD Pavilion. JJ Kinlaw set up his outside studio and provided 100+ people with the great music we needed to be able to accomplish what we set out to do. We had a terrific turnout, great weather, great music, great camaraderie and so much laughter and fun we completed our 1st of what we hope is many dancing barefoot in the sand events. Based on all the wonderful laughter, eager participation, so many compliments, and so many requests for another we are looking forward to another great night on September 13, 2022. Another great morning at the OD Shag Club Brunch welcoming 125 Junior SOS participants and their families along with the Junior SOS Board and helpers. A terrific way to start another beautiful day at the beach. So many happy faces, smiles, and thank you’s from a really great group of people. We had delicious food served with loving hands from our awesome food team and new members. A special thank you to Terry & Kathy who brought grandchildren to SOS and still had time to make sure we had enough food to feed everyone. Paulette, again and again, great service.

A huge thank you to Garrett Humphries and his ever-giving Board and staff. Without them, the future of our dance would not be where it is today. It is so much fun to watch these young people in various stages of dance knowledge. From the smallest to the tallest, they get out on the dance floor and dance like no one is watching. WAY TO GO KIDS!!!!!!  A lot of the girls wore their (new to them) dance shoes collected from Betty Ladwig’s shoe crew. Thanks, ladies, and gents for making that possible.

If you have not done so, please next year volunteer to help with Junior SOS at some point during the week. The volunteers that help their board give so graciously to make a difference in a child/kids life. You actually see their starting place and their ending place and it is a very rewarding experience.

Last but not least, thanks to all who helped clean up. We so appreciate your dedication and desire to make a difference.

What a great night. We combined our June party with our new member event in order to have more “seasoned” members to be able to be a part of greeting our new members. We are growing this year by leaps and bounds and it is not easy to recognize all of our new members. We all want and need to welcome them to our great club. We were better able to do that because last year’s Entertainment chair Lori Setzer came up with a great idea. That was to “red tag” the new members name tags with a red attachment indicating they are a “New Member”. Thanks Lori. Boy does that help us all. The night was a near perfect setting. Beautiful faces, beautiful smiles, great food, great turnout of 138 members and 5 guest, super music and of course we were in our home away from home Fat Harold’s. This year’s Entertainment chair, Connie Pangburn is doing a super job as well. Not only did we get to see all these beautiful people, but Connie also had a collection of prizes that only our new members were eligible for. Surprised happy faces all over the place. Donna introduced the board members, welcomed our new members to the floor and put names with faces for our September golf tournament group. It was truly a great welcome for our new members who attended and a happy event for our “seasoned” members to see all the new faces. Hopefully this will become a tradition. Check out the pictures for all the beautiful smiles.

Saville’s successfully hosted our annual cookout and corn hole contest with good weather and a good turnout of around 160, including 3 guest and 2 new members.

Glen Strange one the corn hole tournament for the men and Shirley Dyson for the ladies, thanks to Connie Pangburn’s efficient management of the operation. And Charlie helped!

Terry and Kathy McCoy, along with their minions, Ken Dawson and Joe Harrill, cooked up 200 hotdogs and 200 hamburgers, while Paulette Miller and her team helped serve up the fixings, along with a pool table full of side dishes and another pool table full of desserts donated by members.

50/50 tickets sold by the effervescent Al Cosgrove, raised funds for the club and enough to award $135 to the winner, Doris Goldman.

Only 106 Golf Cart raffle tickets of the original 3,800 remain after Jim Robinson sold47 at the event.

We concluded our fun evening with a $25 prize given to our red ticket member who wears their name tag and our blue ticket member who wears our logo apparel. The name of our red ticket winner is unknown.  Jim Robinson was our lucky blue ticket logo winner.

After a two-year delay, due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, finally there was a “GO” from the SOS board for the 2022 SOS Spring Safari Parade.

The OD Shag Club had been preparing for this for over two years by late Presidents Billy Powell and John Setzer, so it was agreed we would honor their theme idea of “ROLLING THRU THE SANDS…THE OD SHAG CLUB CARAVAN”!

For some six to seven weeks, in the garage of Bill and Diane Millman, the work began on the focal point of the float; that being a completely cardboard and papier-mache 4X8 Sphinx.

special thanks go out to Gil Geiger, Bill and Diane Millman, Mark and Kay Hughes, Linda and Ron Brashears, Kim and Janine Davis, Ken Dawkins, Susan Davenport, Lori Stone, Donna Williams, and Linda Campbell, who were responsible for the build of the float. On the Float were several kings, including our DJ Terry McPhail, Bill Millman, David Hoard, Burnie Williams, Al Cosgrove, Randy Riddle, Gil Geiger and Princess Diane, Betty, Susan, Joan.  The main focal point besides the King Sphinx was, of course, Little Egypt (AKA Lou Martino).

Not only was the float amazing due to the creative talents of the above members of the ODSC, the Nine Golf Carts also displayed fun and artistic themed decorations, such as “Oasis Bar and Grill, Clyde and Co Camel Traders, Pharaohs Phuneral Parlor, and many others.  The ODSC is blessed to have talents of Kay and Mark Hughes, Robin and Julie King, and myself as we dressed the carts to go along with the theme.

Leading the parade of course were our banner carriers dressed in their Egyptian God costumes Bill and Donna Althoff followed by Eleven Egyptian Dancing Princesses: Connie Livingston, Linda Campbell, Diane Millman, Donna Williams, Lori Stone, Collette Webster, Connie Panburgn, Janice Flibott, Linda Brashears, Susan Salley, and Cindy Geiger.

So much fun, excitement was felt as the parade went down Main Street, along with the other SOS Club entries.  The crowds on the sides of the streets were shouting and hands waving for beads and clapping for their favorite club.

The ODSC wants to send grateful thanks to the Parade Board, to Terry and Kathy McCoy, who have taken Donnie and Wendy Schultz place as Parade Chairs.  Special thanks go to the SOS Parade judges as the OD Shag Club took First Place Most Original.

THANK YOU SO MUCH TO EVERYONE INVOLVED TO HELP MAKE THIS HAPPEN AND WE SO LOOK FORWARD TO DOING THIS AGAIN NEXT YEAR!!

The OD Shag Club held their annual brunch at the OD Arcade on Sunday 4/24/2022.The renown Murl Augustine played the tunes from 10 until noon. Great to see Murl back in the booth! Over 200 people attended the enjoyable event. Mimosas, Bloody Mary’s, and wonderful food from the Arcade were served..  Old friendships were renewed and new ones made with dancing and conversation. It was an electric atmosphere as people were having fun, dancing, eating, buying golf cart raffle tickets and OD Shag Club logo clothing. Donna Williams, President of the Shag Club made a few announcements: a special clothing sale will be held soon, the Parade will be held on 4/30/2022, and a vintage jacket will be sold at silent auction. She especially thanked all the volunteers that helped serve the food, sell tickets and clothing and that worked(work) on the float for the Parade. None of this could happen without everyone’s help. A 50/50 drawing was held at the close of the party.

Mark your calendar for OD Shag Club event May 21 at Seville’s. Terry McCoy and his assistant chefs will be cooking gourmet, hot off the grill.

After being postponed in January due to Covid, our Anniversary Drop In was a huge success. On the first night of SOS, we welcomed 226+ guest including past Presidents, lifetime members, icons, Al Cain winners, ACSC Board members, SOS Board members, Our Mayor Marilyn Hatley and lots of our wonderful members both new and from past years.

Held in the back of “our home” with our bartender Brenda, we danced to great music played by Rommie Tyndall, took lots and lots of pictures and ate wonderful desserts provided by our member volunteers, and two logo cakes prepared by a local bakery.

A special 40th Anniversary certificate was presented by Robin Morley, our A.C.S.C. Chairperson. Joining in the celebration with the current Board, a special thanks went out to LuLu for her years of putting up with us. We are so lucky to have such a great place to call home.

At the end of a super night of dancing, fun, laughter and stories being told, the feeling of being a part of such a wonderful, loving group of people was over whelming to many. New memories were made, and we left with a feeling that WE are all so lucky to be a part of something so special. Thanks go out to all who worked so graciously to make this once in a lifetime night(40th) a night we are so proud of and grateful for.

The St. Patrick’s Day Parade in North Myrtle Beach was huge success, even though it was delayed a week because of weather.  The Shag Club was one of over a hundred entrants who participated after a COVID hiatus.  The weather was perfect for outside activities.  The Shag Club had 9 golf carts, 6 members walking and a total of 35 of our members participating in the parade.  Even though our contingency may have been small, we still managed to represent very well and took the 1st Place Award for Enthusiasm!  A good time was had by all and thanks to those who made it possible!

On a beautiful night that hinted at the coming of Spring, the OD Shag Club Oyster Roast was held at the OD Arcade on February 19, 2022.  Committee Chairs Terry and Kathy McCoy and Paulette Miller led a team of close to 30 volunteers in putting on the Roast, which is considered by many to be one of the premier events on the Shag Club’s calendar.  Working for more than two days, this team worked tirelessly to prepare and serve 50 bushels of oysters and two huge pots of bog that contained 80 pounds of chicken.

Attending and enjoying the event were more than 200 Club members and 11 guests.  Music was provided by DJ Bill Anderson.  Jim Robinson and the Golf Cart Committee sold golf cart raffle tickets, and Wayne and Anita Baldwin and Sue Wehner sold OD Shag Club merchandise, including a specially designed Oyster Roast Tee shirt.  Al Cosgrove sold 50/50 tickets.  As always, Judy Caulder and the Hospitality Committee greeted all attendees and supported the event.

By all accounts, the 2022 Oyster Roast was a huge success that easily met the high standards for which the annual event has become known.

Each year the OD Shag Club sponsors several families with elementary school children for Christmas.  This year, we had 7 families with 7 children.

I would like to thank all those who helped with the Christmas Kids project for the OD Shag Club this year.  Jeannie Brandt, Beth Cornwell and Cindy Day were there for the shopping days for the 7 kids. Jeannie Brandt, Paula Webb, Anita Baldwin, and Joan Bacon helped wrap all the gifts.  We were able to get almost everything on the kids’ wish lists so they should have a very Merry Christmas.

I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas, too.

The NMB Christmas parade was held on Saturday, December 4th and the OD Shag Club was certainly a part of the entertainment.  Buddy (Bill Millman) and his favorite elf (Diane Millman) led our entry and they had a lot of elves walking with them to throw out beads.

We were extremely popular with the children.  You could hear as murmur in the crowd of kids as the banner went by with “They have Beads!!!”  We had great golf carts all shining in the dark with fantastic lights!

A special thank you to John Barringer and Nancy Sook for signing everyone in and handing out the beads.

Also, special mention to Mark Adcock who took his Model T (from the 2019 SOS parade) and turned it into a 1917 Ford Truck pulling a trailer.  Great way to recycle Mark!

We started off with brief announcements and reminders so we could get to the super music played by Kitty Earles. At 6:30 we began serving the 160 people in attendance. Terry and crew fixed all the hams and turkeys to perfection.  All the delicious sides and dessert were catered by Boulineau’s, and they too were delicious. After dinner our 2021 Al Cain winner, Billy Powell, was announced and was congratulated by all. It was a fun filled evening with wonderful music, food, fanfare, and most of all wonderful smiling and laughing people.

We are excited to report that we sold all our golf cart raffle tickets for the 4th year in a row. We want to thank the many members who worked shifts to sell tickets, purchased tickets and supported our club.  A special thank you to Monica Powell, Communications Chair for the many emails sent out for our committee. Thanks to Lulu at Fat Harold’s Andy he staff at McMillan’s for allowing us to sell on their property. We also want to thank Mike Graham for always being willing to help us select a cart, letting us sell in front of his business and selling tickets for us.

What does it take to sell 3500 tickets?

  • Our team and volunteers sold tickets at 22 days of selling events. We sold at Graham’s, Fat Harold’s, Shag club events, Little River Crab Festival, and SOS.  Our volunteers sold tickets in freezing weather in February and triple digit heat index weather in summer.
  • We had 27 club members sell blocks of tickets for the golf cart raffle.
  • We mailed tickets, delivered tickets, raffled cakes, and did whatever it took to reach our goal

Congratulations to our 2021 golf cart winner Sandy Hutchins.  She purchased ticket #1818 at the Little River Crab Festival in May.  She lives in Laurinburg, NC and has a vacation home in Cherry Grove.  She was thrilled to win and promised to buy lots of tickets next year.

We had another successful 50/50 with a donation from the winner being made back to the club.

Numerous sponsors and prize donors helped make the event an enjoyable one for the 108 golfers who participated.  In addition to the Tournament winners and winning raffle ticket holders, prizes were given to individual golfers who prevailed in the Closest to Center Line, Closest to Pin, Longest Drive and Putting contests.

In terms of both the enjoyment of the golfers and volunteers and the money raised for charities, the 2021 Tournament was a huge success that set a high standard for future years.

The doors to the OD Arcade were locked, however, people began lining up to get inside for the OD Shag Club June SOS Brunch around 8:00am, even though the brunch did not start till 10:00am.

This was the first brunch that the club has had in almost 18 months, and EVERYONE was ready to partake in the great breakfast cooked by the staff of the OD Arcade, drink some “liquid sunshine” and hear the great tunes of DJ Bill Anderson (and guest LOL).

The brunch was called to order by President John Setzer and Al Cosgrove gave the blessing after John gave some important announcements about the day, as well as introducing the 2021 Board.

In attendance were himself, President, Donna Williams, Vice President,

Rick Kosco, Treasurer, Board Members Wayne Baldwin, Linda Campbell, Joe Harrell, Monica Palmieri, and Billy Powell.  Absent was Secretary Charlie Pangburn.

The Golf Cart Committee of Lori (and John) Setzer, Jim and Monica Palmieri were there selling Golf Cart Tickets and a chance to win one of Lori’s famous Carrot Cakes.  And the lucky winner was….

Shirley Dyson and she also won $20 for name tag as well!

Nancy Pardini was the $20 winner for logo. Jesse Becker won the 50/50.

There were approximately 166 members and 12 guests in attendance who all seemed to be having such a great time and seemed ready to get their SOS week started off right with dancing, fellowship, and fun.

Wow, it has been over a year, but we are finally back in action!! The club met at Fat Harold’s in Ocean Drive and everyone had their fill of wonderful pizza cooked by Main Slice in OD. Thank you, Paulette and your crew, for food set-up and arrangement. The cake was also very good.

A tremendous turnout of 163 people enjoyed the night. John Setzer President, opened the meeting with welcomes, discussed the 50/50 drawing, golf cart ticket sales, and the brunch on June 20 at the Arcade. Linda Campbell gave the prayer.

I want to publicly thank the 22 club members who scheduled and worked shifts at the Little River Crab Festival. This group stepped to the plate and committed to covering the needed shifts. While we had other members, who supported us by coming by and buying tickets, offering breaks etc. —these were the club members who got it done. We sold 671 raffle tickets during the festival.  I am proud of the work that this group did to sell tickets, help with tent take down, take pictures, demo shag dance basics and otherwise promote our club.  We gave out over 40 membership applications for the club and talked to lots of people who are interested in learning to shag. I truly believe that our volunteers are the backbone of the OD Shag Club.  We enjoyed working with this team and want to recognize the work that they did.  When you see them please say thank you?

20210422 Celebration of Life

Memorial Service

On April 22, 2021 at 10:00 am the sun was shining brightly on the beach, but the wind was blowing a bitter cold breeze.  However, more than 180 people were gathering with their chairs, blankets, hot drinks on the beach straight out from the horseshoe. They were waiting for a word of comfort, a song of encouragement and a time of reflection as the Memorial service began.

Linda Campbell, Board Member and 2018 Past President welcomed everyone there and then opened the service with a prayer.  She then explained that there would be a reading of the names of the members of the OD Shag Club that were lost during 2020 and 2021 and a RED rose would be placed in the vase representing each name that was read.  Also, being read would be the names of “Friends” of the OD Shag Club and a YELLOW rose would be placed in the vase to represent them.  John Setzer, President of the ODSC read the names of the OD Shag Club and Judy Caulder, Hospitality Chair read the names of the Friends.

Linda Campbell read a poem “THE DASH”.

Christina Cooper Black was introduced and sang her version of Carrie Underwood’s “How Great Thou Art”.

Paulette Miller, Food Committee Co-Chair then invited everyone to help themselves to Ham biscuits, veggie tray and cookies while they continued to fellowship with each other.

Lou Martino, Dance Team Co-Chair, provided the music for the service.

The beautiful vase of flowers and a framed print of the memorial names was taken to Fat Harold’s to be on displayed for their Re-opening set for that afternoon.

We celebrated the first day of Spring with our March Drive Thru Saturday March 20, 2021. Though it did not feel much like we think of as Spring weather, it was a day of joy just seeing our members and fellow workers at another OD. Shag Club event. In spite of the wind, cold and rain it was a great day to be out and about and see all the great people we have missed so much. 148 people came through with their mask on to buy golf cart tickets and get their chicken and goodies barbecued by Terry and crew and served by our great volunteers. Thanks to all who attended, bought tickets and shared their smiles and laughter with all of us who were so delighted to see them. Until next time, stay safe and be well.

The Golf Cart Committee set up shop on March 12 and 13 outside of Graham’s Golf Cart Store. (See attached pictures) Thank you to Mike Graham for his continued support.  Also, many thanks to Dolly McDermott, Anita and Wayne Baldwin, and Monica and Billy Powell for volunteering to help us out.  They all did a really great job.  We always need volunteers.  For the two days we sold a total of 454 tickets.  Thanks to those of you who stopped by to purchase tickets.  We still have a very long way to go.  With your support we will sell our 3,500 tickets.

This Saturday, March 20, we will be selling tickets at the chicken dinner drive thru.  As a reminder, be sure to bring your return address stickers to attach to your purchased tickets.  You then will only need to write down your telephone number.  This will speed up the process. Tickets are only $5.00.

20201214 Christmas Delivery

Christmas Delivery

I would like to give a special thank you to Jim Sterner for providing the music on Saturday for the drive-thru.  Jim contacted me and volunteered to play Christmas music for the 2 hour drive thru.  He is a new member and his music put all of us in the Christmas spirit!

I would like to give some special thanks to our Christmas Family Chairperson, Karen Young, and her team of Jean Brandt and Rich Young for helping shop for clothes and toys for our seven kids.  It was quite a lot of work to find the items the children requested.  Karen & Jean also wrapped all the gifts.  It took hours to complete the wrapping not to mention the shopping.  The ODSC is going to provide these kids with a wonderful Christmas.

On Sunday, the following volunteers helped sort and box up all the food to be given to the families of the kids:  Joe and Beth Cornwall, Wayne Baldwin, Rick Kosko, Sue Wehner, Lori and John Setzer, Donna and Bernie Williams, Rich & Karen Young, and Monica Powell.

Monday, we delivered the food and gifts to the school where the parents will pick them up.  Karen & Rich Young, Wayne Baldwin, Lori and John Setzer, Donna and Bernie Williams and I also delivered the surplus food to North Strand Helping Hands to help other families in need.  Again, thanks to all of you.

Below is a picture of the quantity of food and Christmas gifts for our families.  It was awesome!  Thank you so much.

Merry Christmas to our wonderful shag family,
Billy Powell

Christmas Drive

Hello ODSC Members,

We just finished our Christmas Drive Thru and I want to take a moment to thank all our volunteers.  Terry McCoy and Paulette Miller and their team worked on the the food for us and it was delicious!  We have a great group of volunteers who directed traffic, handled re-up applications and collected your donations for our Christmas Families.  Thank you to all the volunteers!

Now, I want to thank the 204 of your who drove thru our event today and donated a van full of food for our Christmas families.  You also donated $673  and $200 of Honey Baked Ham gift cards which we will use tomorrow to purchase turkeys, hams, and perishable food for the families.

You generosity to our Christmas families is wonderful!

Thank you for allowing me to be your President in 2020 and I wish each and everyone of you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!  I hope the next year allows us to dance and socialize together.

President

20201008 CoronaVirus

Covid-19 is hitting way too close to everyone’s home. With a sad heart, but with strong faith in our Heavenly Father, today I kneel down in prayer, asking for a full recovery for those with Covid-19 and those in pain. Lord I’m asking You to protect & cover each of us with your healing hands and precious blood. Please protect and strengthen the elderly, homeless, unemployed, sick, front liners and caregivers who are exhausted, but not giving up. Please refresh their minds and renew their strength. Prop them up on every leaning side. Thank You for Your grace, love, mercy and healing powers. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

Let us be united in praying for one another.

May God bless us!
In Jesus mighty name….Amen

A letter from your 2020 Golf Cart Fundraiser Committee:

Hello ODSC, we hope this finds you and your family doing well.

Monica Palmieri, Lori Setzer, John Setzer, and Jim Palmieri are extremely pleased to report that we have sold all of our tickets for the 3rd year in a row.  That is correct; in 2018 we sold 3,000 tickets.  In 2019 we sold 3,200.  In 2020, despite having all of our scheduled events cancelled, all 3,500 tickets have been sold.  That’s a total of $17,500 deposited for 2020.  And, if you are keeping score, that’s $48,500 for three years.

A great big thank you to Monica Powell.  Without her incredible communication, this would not have been possible.  Thank you to our President, Billy Powell, for all of his support.  This year we had to create our own events and Billy showed up at every single event.  We really appreciated his support.  Thank you to all of our volunteers who gave up their time to help sell tickets.

On the day of the drawing, with 500 tickets still to sell, we started selling at Grahams’s at 10:00am and then moved to Fat Harold’s parking lot at 3:00pm.  At 5:30pm, as members were arriving for the drawing, many members who had volunteered in the past 3 years, got caught up in the selling frenzy as we closed in on ticket #3,500 and they started selling tickets with us.  Finally, thank you to all of our members who showed up in droves on September 26th to purchase tickets and stayed for the drawing.

Congratulations to our 2020 golf cart winner Felix Figueroa.  Felix is a member of the ODSC and purchased ticket #0800 way back in February.

Once again, thank you to everyone.

The ODSC Dance Team was asked to give a brief history and to demonstrate the Shag Dance at the North Myrtle Beach Museum on September 08, 2020 at 9:30am. by Cathy Altman, Executive Director.

With the restrictions and safety precautions due to Covid-19 it was recommended that only two members of the dance team provide the information being requested. All safety measures were taken. Each person that was a part of the event wore a mask, practiced social distancing and there was plenty of hand sanitizer made available.

The group represented the NMB Chamber’s Marketing Agency. Our local President and CEO of the North Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce Cheryl Kilday was accompanied by three young ladies from the Miles Partnership, the Creative and Marketing company for the North Myrtle Beach Chamber out of Florida.

Linda Campbell gave a 15-minute talk on the history of the Shag Dance and the impact that it has on our community.

Following her talk, we demonstrated the Shag Dance. Then we taught the group the basic steps. The group picked up the steps very easily and were very enthusiastic in wanting to learn.

After the lessons, we were asked if we could go to Florida and teach the Shag Dance in their community. Well….

I would also like to recognize the NMB Museum and the Executive Director, Cathy Altman. She has always asked the ODSC Dance Team to come to the Museum and promote and preserve the Shag. If you have not been to the Museum, take the time to visit. There is a wealth of information there. It’s free and worth the trip.

Thank you, Cathy, for the invitation and thank you for keeping the Shag alive.

Thanks to Linda Campbell and Lou Martino for taking the time to take part in this event.

20200801 Cancellations #8

ODSC – Important News

Hello ODSC Members,

Let me start with this:

  • We will NOT be having a party in August.

Now on to other news.

Before the pandemic started, the ODSC had a brunch in January and the Oyster Roast in February.  We are also planning an activity for October so we can vote on our officers and board for 2021.  While we have not been together, expenses still continue such as the rent for the storage bldg., insurance, CPA fees, etc.   In light of the fact that we have cancelled several parties, the Executive Board of the ODSC has decided to change the following:

  • Re-up for current members will be $20.00 for 2021 instead of the usual $35.00 if you re-up before 12/31/2020.
  • New members or anyone who signs up after 12/31/2020 will be charged the usual $40.00 per person
  • Your SOS card for 2020 is good thru December 31, 2021

We hope to see you soon and hope we can get back to some semblance of normalcy.

Golf Cart Fundraiser Update

The Golf Cart Raffle Committee set up shop outside of Graham’s Golf Carts on June 26 and 27.  To say it was hot would be an understatement.  We would like to thank our volunteers who braved the heat – Joe Harrell, Nancy & Tom Wegman, Dolly McDermott, Jerry Howard, and Monica & Billy Powell.  (Also, thank you Monica for the communication) Special thanks to Mike Graham for supporting us once again and Rip Tide Radio for the great advertisements. Please support them.

Over the weekend we sold 250 tickets.  We began the year with 3,500 tickets. Despite having all of our events cancelled, we have less than 1,300 remaining. We still have a few more events up our sleeves but not enough to reach the finish line in a blaze of glory.

We really need your help.  As a reminder, if you would like to purchase or sell blocks of tickets (five, ten or more)  contact Monica Palmieri at monicapalmieri@me.com.  You may also purchase tickets anytime at Graham’s.  Just ask Mike for OD Shag Club Golf Cart tickets.  He has the cart and sign in his store, and is helping us sell tickets.  We can’t thank him enough for the support.  The drawing is still Sept. 26.  If you are on a Committee, we would appreciate you turning in your money ASAP.

20200524 Golf Cart Fundraiser

Message from Your Golf Cart Fundraiser Committee
Monica & Jim Palmieri
Lori & John Setzer

As you know, all of our selling events this year have been cancelled. We lost St. Patricks’ Day, SOS, SOS Parade, and MayFest, not to mention some smaller events.  This Covid Virus really has a way of trickling down, and we saw it firsthand.  Last year at this time, we were completely sold out.  With restrictions loosening up, we thought we may have a selling opportunity at Graham’s Golf Cart store on Memorial Day weekend.  This is like ‘fishing where the fish are’ because we know everyone that walks by, loves to drive golf carts around town.

A big shout out to Mike Graham for allowing us to set up our booth in front of his store on Friday and Saturday.  Also thank you to Rip-Tide Radio for giving us on-air mentions both days, they did a great job.  As always, thank you Monica Powell for the terrific communication. Thank you to our members, Maxie Brien, Dolly McDermott, Kay and Mark Hughes and our new member Tim Pittman, who volunteered their time to sell tickets.  Thank you to all our club members who stopped by to purchase tickets.

Okay, so you want to know the results?  Our two-day event ranked 2nd to our largest event ever (St. Patrick’s Day Festival last year). WE SOLD ALMOST 600 TICKETS!

All that being said, we are still far behind our sales goal.

We have 1,700 tickets left to sell, so we’re always looking for selling opportunities. If anyone would like a block of 10 or more tickets to sell to friends and neighbors, please let Monica Palmieri know by clicking on this link monicapalmieri@me.com. While we did not have the large crowds like the above events, our hit-rate made a hot couple of days well worth our time.

Once again, a great big  ‘THANK YOU’ to all who came out.

John’s Drive-By

There were just a few clouds in a perfect Carolina Blue sky that set the stage for the most important dance event that the OD Shag Club Dance Team has had thus far for 2020.  Saturday, May 16, 2020, at 10:30 Lou Martino and Linda Campbell organized a surprise “Drive-by” for one of our very own, John and Lori Setzer. Drive-by’s seem to be the new way to “visit” now days due to the “invisible enemy” as it is called, the Corona Virus or COVID-19.

John had been home for two days from Grand Strand Regional Hospital where he had surgery to stabilize his neck.

The cul de sac at Ridgewood Dr North Myrtle Beach began to line up with all kinds of vehicles and most people were getting out of them sporting their fashionable masks.  There were many convertibles, golf carts, and even a beautiful classic muscle car.   The vehicles were decorated with colorful balloons and signs, some saying things such as…”Hugs and Prayers”, We are here for you!” and “TEAM JOHN!”.  As the caravan paraded in front of John and Lori’s house. Even SEA DOO, the Shag Monkey stuck his head out and waved to John and Lori as he passed by John and Lori’s beautiful home.

The caravan of vehicles then stopped in the cul de sac in front of John and Lori’s home and more pictures were taken, some surprises were given to them, and then everyone turned their radio stations in their cars to 94.9 The Surf and they danced in honor of TEAM JOHN to a shag song.

Air hugs and kisses were blown to John and Lori and lots of “Love ya”, “Praying for you guys”, and “ We are here for You!” was heard as we all said our good bye’s from the roadside knowing how much we really wanted to do a group hug but we knew what we felt was that we RECEIVED so much more by what we were experiencing by being there with John and Lori.  However, hopefully they knew that they were being lifted up in much LOVE, FAITH, HOPE and PRAYER!

MANY THANKS goes to those who took time out of their Saturday morning to participate with us: Lou Martino and Linda Campbell, Bill and Diane Millman, Mark and Kay Hughes (and Sea Doo), Barbara Hopper, Barry and Julie Dyer, Lynn and Andy Gabriel, Cathy and Rich Jamiolkowski, Ted Sobol and Callie White, Donna and Burnie Williams, Barnie Lee and Connie Williams, Connie and Jim Livingston and Lou and Dicky Garrenton and we cant forget their neighbor Steve, who kept riding up and down the road in his black corvette .

The OD Shag Club Dance Team was asked again to return to Del Web for more lesson’s March 9, 2020 at 6:00PM at the Grand Dunes Active Adult Community in Myrtle Beach to dance and teach.

We had several residents return from the last two classes as well as two new couples. One couple was so excited to learn the Shag Dance so that they could go and dance at their daughter’s wedding in three weeks. I am sure their daughter will be impressed.

At this lesson we taught the start, female turn, male turn, side pass and train. Since most had learned these steps in the prior classes, they felt more comfortable. The residence wanted to learn more and more.

We have been asked to return next week for a follow up class. Since many of the residence wanted to learn more and more we invited them to join the OD Shag Club. They all took applications and we hope to see them on the Dance Floor at Fat Harold’s.

Again, thank you Laureen Buckler, Lifestyle Director for asking us to come back.

And a special thank you to the members of the Dance Team who assisted: John and Lori Setzer, Mark and Kay Hughes, Barry Dyer, Linda Campbell and Lou Martino.

The OD Shag Club Dance Team was invited to dance at the Vintage Market Days at the Myrtle Beach Sports Complex on February 28, 2020 from 1:00PM to 3:00PM in Myrtle Beach.

“Vintage Market Days® is an upscale vintage-inspired indoor/outdoor market featuring original art, antiques, clothing, jewelry, handmade treasures, home décor, outdoor furnishings, consumable yummies, seasonal plantings and a little more. Vintage Market Days® events are so much more than a flea market. Each Vintage Market Days® event is a unique opportunity for vendors to display their talents and passions in creative venues.”

The dance team performed the Shag Dance as shoppers walked by our booth.

Many shoppers stopped by our booth to inquire about the Dance and how they could get involved in the OD Shag Club.

We also had the opportunity to teach those individuals that where interested to learn. There was a young family that was interested in having her daughters look into junior shaggers.

We found out that there are many locals that haven’t heard about the Shag Dance and would like to have known more. We provided information via the OD Shag Club Website and hard copies of our Club. We gave handouts for instructions on the basic shag step.

A special thank you to Trish Sessions for asking us to dance at this event. And thank you 94.9 The Surf for recognizing the OD Shag Club Dance Team on the radio from their remote.

Thank you to the OD Shag Club Dance Team who attended this event: Lou Martino, Ted Sobol, Barry Dyer, Callie White, Bill Millman, Diane Millman, Jim Livingston, Connie Livingston, Lori Setzer and John Setzer.

The OD Shag Club Dance Team was again invited to Del Web at Grand Dunes Active Adult Community in Myrtle Beach to perform and instruct the Shag Dance on February 24, 2020 at 6:00PM.

Since all the residents were in the last class on February 10, 2020, we moved right into the instruction of the dance.

The class was not as large as last class, so each couple had their own Dance Team instructor, which gave the residence a more personal touch.

We began where we left off from the last lesson. The instructors for the lesson was John and Lori Setzer. We reviewed and continued to teach the Start, Female Turn, and the Male Turn.

Thank you, Laureen Buckler, for having us back. And we are scheduled to meet twice next month.

Thank the members of the Dance Team who participated in this event:

Lou Martino, John and Lori Setzer, Bill and Diane Millman, Donna and Burnie Williams, Barbara Hooper, Kay and Mark Hughes and Connie Livingston.

Once again, the World-Famous OD Oyster Roast was another success!  We had 280 members and 4 guests on hand to enjoy this culinary event!

Prep work began Friday night at Donnie and Wendy’s house with cutting up sausage and prepping the chicken for the Fantastic Chicken Bog (for those of you that have not acquired a taste for oysters) and for those of us who love both.  Thank you also Christina Black, Linda Miller, Pam Rust and Karen Young for serving the chicken bog and making sure each table had crackers and hot sauce.

Dickey Garrenton returned to his post as “the lookout” to direct the oyster carriers to their appointed drop spots.  Their great hustle kept the oysters coming and the wait time minimal as the cooking crew kept them supplied.  Also, a huge thank you to all the crew that helped behind the scenes; Paulette Miller, Terry and Kathy McCoy, Cindy Day, Kevin and Susan Harrell, Bruce and Cathy Fitzsimmons, Bill Bacon, Joe Harrell, Ken Dawkins, Rick Koski, Glenn Strange, Bob Miller, Larry Jones and, of course, Donnie and Wendy Schultz!! Hope I didn’t leave anyone out. You all did an amazing job!

Bill Anderson once again kept the tunes coming for our enjoyment.  Lou Garrenton and Al Cosgrove were busy selling 50/50 tickets while Wayne Baldwin and Sue Wehner had plenty of merchandise to offer.  And we cannot forget our golf cart raffle.  Lori Setzer was offering lemon bars to anyone who purchased a raffle ticket.

At the end of the night many people stayed to help cleanup and reset the tables and chairs for the club.  Thank you again.

The 2020 World Famous OD Oyster Roast will again go down as a crowd favorite and success!! Many thanks to the Od Arcade for allowing us to be there and to all that helped! A great job well done by all!!

Monday morning, a group of OD Shag Club members delivered the gifts and food to Riverside Elementary School for our sponsored Christmas kids.  The group included Bill Bacon, Rich Young, Lou Martino, John Setzer, Mike Bejzak and Karen Young.  The kid’s parents were called by the school counselor, Felicia Bellamy, to come and pick up the items.

After leaving the school, we went out to North Strand Helping Hands to deliver the remaining food boxes. They weighed them in at 594 pounds.  They were very happy to get the food as there is a huge demand at this time of year.  Thank you to all those who either brought food or donated money at the Shag Club Party Saturday night.  The money was used to buy a turkey and ham for each family plus the other items needed for a nice Christmas dinner for each family.  Your generosity was greatly appreciated by the families who already gave thank you cards for the Shag Club to the school counselor.  I picked those up today and will bring them to the January Business Meeting.

If you remember, the ODSC & ODSC Foundation sponsored a Charity Golf Tournament in September.  The net proceeds were the highest recorded for the club.  Many, many thanks to our Committee Chairs, Larry Jones, Ken Meyers, Karen Young, Bob Miller and Terry McCoy for all your hard work!

Last night, the Boards and several members were able to present the rewards of all the hard work to numerous local charities at Fat Harold’s.  The charities included North Strand Helping Hands, Junior SOS, Teen Angels, NMB Explorers, Ellen Taylor Foundation and Special Olympics.

It was a pleasure to talk with each of the charities and to be a part of a Club that wants to not only have a good time, socialize and dance, but likes to give back to the community!  Thank you to everyone that worked the Tournament and collected donations for the raffle prizes!  It takes a large group led by our fantastic Chairmen’s to pull this off!

On October 8, 2019 the OD Shag Club Dance Team was asked to dance at the Inaugural Georgetown County Boomer Bash being held at the Precious Blood Church of Christ in Pawleys Island, SC. From 10:00am-1:00pm.

The team, along with approximately 40 vendors, entertained at the expo, dancing at 11:00am and again 12:00pm, showing those who were visiting the exhibition hall that seniors can be active and healthy in their “mature” years.

When the team was not dancing, we were able to visit the other vendors and were treated to some amazing samples of healthy foods, information on retirement communities, investment opportunities in retirement years, banking opportunities for seniors and much much more.

Those who attended really enjoyed seeing us “showcase” our beloved dance and a few even wanted us to teach them the basic.   The team that were there to dance were: Cathy and Rich Jamiolkowski, Connie and Jim Livingston, Ted Sobol and Callie White, Bonnie and Mike Bejzak, Barbara Hopper, Barry Dyer and Linda Campbell.

A special thanks goes out to Julie Dyer with the Georgetown County Chamber of Commerce for our invitation to attend and from what we have heard, she believes there is going to be another “Bash” next year and we have a standing invite to come back next year!!!

You can stick a fork in the 2019 version of the Golf Cart Fundraiser, because it is done.  It was a record-breaking year.  We have never tried to sell 3,200 tickets, we have never sold 3,200 tickets, and they were all sold by the end of SOS Parade Day way back in April.

Once again, a great big thank you to our volunteers who gave their time to support the Club, McMillan’s for the use of their parking lot, and Lulu at Fat Harold’s for inviting us indoors to sell tickets during Winter SOS.  Also, many thanks to Mike Graham at Graham’s Golf Cars for selling tickets and storing the cart all year.  Please support businesses that support us.

The drawing was held on Saturday 9/21/2019 at Fat Harold’s parking lot. The drawing was held on a Saturday for the first time and we had a great turn out. We have never seen so many fingers and toes crossed.  And the winner was, Joanne Natt of North Myrtle Beach.  Needless to say, she was extremely excited as were her ODSC friends.

Lesson learned; buy your tickets early in 2020!

On July 27, 2019, the ODSC Dance Team was invited to the Building Material Suppliers Association Convention at the Double Tree Resort in Myrtle Beach, SC from 5:30PM thru 7:00PM.

We were asked to demonstrate the Shag Dance and instruct those who were interested to learn to do the Shag.

Just a few attendees knew how to Shag however there were many that wanted to learn. We danced for the first half hour while the members of the association trickled in during their happy hour and pre-meeting.

After a brief introduction by our spokesperson Linda Campbell, the members of the Dance Team danced as a group since the area to dance in was so big and the association members where having a meet and greet.

Many of the members of their association were from all over the country and many of them did not know what the Shag Dance was all about. A couple of members from North Carolina came up and encouraged other members to participate. Over all we all had a great time.

Thank you, Jessica Cutler, DMCP event planner for inviting to this event. If you would like an event planner Jessica does a great job. Here website is http://envents.com.

The OD Shag Club Dance Team was invited to welcome the homeowners of the new development – Bridgewater on Hwy 9 in North Myrtle Beach on July 16, 2019.

Since the development is brand new they did not have an area that we could demonstrate and or teach them so we invited them to join the Dance Team to the back room of Fat Harold’s.

This was a very enthusiastic group willing to learn the Shag Dance and at the same time we introduced them to the Shag World at the famous Fat Harold’s Beach Club.

Our spokesperson Linda Campbell gave a little history of the Shag Dance and introduced the OD Shag Club Dance Team. The Team demonstrated the different styles of shagging and then prepared for the lesson. Not one in the group knew how to shag, but all but one participated. Go to the www.odshagclub.com website to see the pictures for this event.

After the lesson with the OD Shag Club Dance Team, the residents were invited to participate in Jeppy McDowell’s weekly dance class in the main part of the club, so they got to experience the best of both worlds.

Thank you to Sherri Crawford for inviting us to be a part of the welcoming committee for the new homeowners at Brightwater. This was also in part due to Cathy and Rich Jamiolkowski who are the proud owners of their new house, yes, in Brightwater.

Linda Campbell gave a short history of the Shag Dance and introduced the members of each team.

After the spot light dance of the different styles of shag by the members of the OD Shag Club Dance Team, the Junior Shaggers danced for the crowd. These kids really did a great job.

20190523 Sea Side Elementary

Sea Side Elementary

So, you think you had a great day.  Well the OD Shag Club Dance Team had a wonderful and exciting day at Sea Side Elementary School in Surfside South Carolina for their Fine Arts Day.

The OD Shag Dance Team was invited to Sea Side Elementary School by Ruth Van Sciver, Music Educator. We were to dance from 8:20 to 11:15 with 30-minute sessions for students ranging from 6 thru 9 years of age.

We had danced for schools before with 20 to 25 students at a time, so we were ready for this event. We were in the gymnasium when the students marched in. They just kept coming until there were at least 100 students. WOW!

Yes, we taught 100 students at five sessions each and their teachers how to shag. That is 500 students. The students were very well mannered. Well, most of the time. However, we were backed up by some very special teachers that saved the day.

Linda Campbell our spokes person gave a very short history of the Shag Dance for the young students. She then introduced the Dance Team and the students with their high-pitched little voices gave a warm welcome to the Team with a “Hi Mr. Lou” or “Hi Ms. Linda” and so on.

It is amazing how these young students love music and dance. They all wanted to participate of course, until they had to touch each other, then it became a little dicey. Again, we were saved and the dance began. We also had demonstrations from the students as how to do the “floss”.

The teachers this time had to pay attention, because we asked them to dance for their students. They did pay attention because they also did very well with their first lesson. They also asked us to come back and that they would call us for more lessons. There are a lot of people out there that would like to learn how to Shag. And we are going to try to get to them all.

After all was said and done, the day was perfect. We had a great time and a big thank you goes out to the members of the dance team that came out to support the team: Donna Williams, Bill Millman, Lou Martino, Barbara Hopper, Linda Campbell, Lori Setzer and John Setzer.

To help people to mingle a “match” game was played where each person was given a character name which matched another name.  Once you found your match, the idea was to learn facts about your partner and be able to introduce them if requested.

Also, the new members were given numbered tickets and a few prizes were given away. The winners were:

Charles Pangburn

Tony Smith

Terry Tucker

Everyone had a great time getting to know others and sharing experiences.

                      Never Killed Nobody

As you can see from above list, the ODSC definitely has a winning tradition. The above are just the ones that I have records for, but I do know that there were at least 5 more years of 1stplace wins prior to 2009.

Once again thanks to the creativity, enthusiasm, and hard work of our members, we were able to keep the winning tradition going.

Our theme this year was “A Little Party Never Killed Nobody”.  Even though this is true, many of us thought the heat would kill us before the parade was finished.

Many thanks to our “banner carriers”.  They have carried our banner for several years, but this year they actually pulled a large invitation.  Their costumes were great and they are great representatives of the ODSC.  I am not sure if they can ever top their last year’s costumes of the Little Red “Bill” Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf “Donna”, but we are looking forward to what they come up with next year.

Our dance troop did an outstanding job and danced the entire parade.  Dancing that far in the heat was really tough, but they made it look easy.  They put in many hours of practice prior to the parade to make sure they were synchronized and the results were worth it.  The purpose of an entry into the parade is to entertain the crowd.  I hear many compliments after the parade about how great the dancers performed.

The float was rocking the entire parade and everyone on it was partying.  Special thanks to our DJ/Conductor and the trumpet players.  I didn’t realize how tired my arms would be after holding up a plastic trumpet and pretending to play during the whole parade.

The golf carts were outstanding!  We put the basic “Model T” frame on the carts during the work day and everyone took them home and made them unique with lots of special touches.  They were extremely creative!  Everyone was dressed to the theme and each cart was very unique.

I would like to thank all of those who put in the hard work necessary to pull all of this together.  Much gratitude for those that participated in the workday, those that helped put the float together Saturday and even more thanks for those that help dismantle the float after the parade.  Last but in no way least, I could not do this without my better half, Monica.  She keeps me on track and organized.

If you did not participate this year, you missed a lot of fun.  The work and effort are well worth it if compared to the fun and satisfaction of doing something together as a club.

Hope to see you participate in next year’s 1stPlace team.!

Another great morning at the OD Shag Club Spring Safari Brunch. It was a terrific way to start off another super beach morning with the bright sunshine, lots of wonderful good morning smiles from special friends, delicious food, and awesome music across the street from the beach. What in the world could top all of this?

With 317 in attendance including 28 guest and 7 from the Junior Shagger community we began with some great dancing by our Junior Shaggers to show us how it is done these days. They did an awesome job and then pulled some lucky people up to share the dance floor with. Good job everyone. From there we received a welcome, a few messages and a blessing by our President Bill Bacon. Everyone waited to see what color ticket would be called first for the lucky people who would be fed first. Murl Augustine entertained us with great music while we waited. When the color was called, the rush was on for a filling breakfast of eggs, delicious bacon, sausage, grits, biscuits and fruit and it was topped off by our famous happy punch. As the remaining colors were called, it was obvious that everyone was delighted with everything. Thanks to Kathy and Terry McCoy,  Paulette Miller, Wendy Schultz, their crew, the serving volunteers and to OD Arcade personnel who all worked hard to make this ANOTHER great event. Also thanks to the hospitality committee workers who did such a great job of keeping up with sign ins and information.

Wayne and Sue provided us with new items for Sale from our Ways and Means committee. A special thanks to Sue for all the sewing she did herself. Check out the tent during SOS for great products. Thanks go also to their helpers. Job well done.

Our 50/50 volunteers sold $758 of tickets. Of that one lucky winner went home with half. The Juniors were given $379.00 from the club and another $281 from the floor bringing their total to $600. Thanks to all purchasers and donators for being so generous. Thanks to our volunteers for the raffle.

To the volunteers who set up and cleaned up before and after the event thanks for being early risers and late stayers. To our photographer Lou-you allow us to have a look back of a great way to start a day at NMB Spring Safari.

Last but not least, thanks to the Golf cart ticket committee for the special smiles and greetings they gave everyone upon arriving and leaving.

WHAT AN AWESOME SUCCESSFUL MORNING!

The OD Shag Club Dance Team was asked to return to St James Elementary School in Socastee, SC for their Annual Arts Day April 12, 2019, at 7:30AM.

It was a beautiful early morning on April 12, 2019, when the OD Shag Club Dance Team entered St James Elementary School for their Annual Fine Arts Day. We were warmly met by Kaleigh Vanlandingham Art Teacher and the Staff and then directed to the mobile class room to set up and began to demonstrate and instruct the Shag Dance to the 5 thru 9-year old’s.

As usual the students were very well mannered and at the same time excited to learn the dance.

Linda Campbell and Lori Setzer gave a short and simplified version of the history of the Shag Dance to the young students and their teachers.

The Dance Team began this event at 8:00AM with each group of approximately 15-20 students and finished at 11:00AM. So, the Dance Team had about 140 students rotating every 30 minutes throughout the morning.

This event that the Dance Team is invited to each year, the enthusiasm of the students, their participation and wanted to learn is without one of the most rewarding events that we attend.

Thank you to Kayleigh Vanlandingham Art Teacher at St James for inviting the OD Shag Dance Team for us to promote the Shag Dance to such a fine young group of future shaggers. Also, thank you to all the teachers that participated and learned how to Shag.

Many thanks to the early birds of the dance team: John and Lori Setzer, Bill and Diane Millman and Linda Campbell and Lou Martino for making this one of the most enjoyable events on our schedule.

Hope to see you next year.
