Monica Powell, Candidate For President
I am very pleased and honored to run for President of the OD Shag Club. We joined the ODSC after moving to NMB in 2012. Prior to the move, we lived in Charlotte, NC and were members of the Monroe Shag Club from 1997-2014. While being a member of the Monroe Shag Club, I served as President, Vice President and Secretary. I also received the Monroe Shag Club Go-Getter Award and the Monroe Shag Club Icon Award. I was the co-chair of the SOS Parade Committee for 5 years.
After becoming a member of the OD Shag Club, I have served on various committees and worked many a booth for the club. I served the ODSC as:

– As President, I introduced our Beginner Shag Lessons free for ODSC members.
– SASS – Share a Shag Step – monthly lesson in which members teach a shag step.

I retired from Wachovia in Charlotte as a Senior Vice President. I have attended many ACSC events and meetings and have always admired how much participation there is by the ODSC.
I am very glad to be a member of this club and will work hard to ensure I help maintain and grow all the wonderful events and help with new events for this great club.
Rick Kosko, Candidate For Vice President
I’m Rick Kosko. Some of you may know me as “Pony Tail Rick”.
After retiring and moving here in 2012, I found the music scene in NMB. I learned how to Shag, barely, and joined the ODSC. Since joining the club I was elected to the Board as Treasurer and have served in that capacity for the last 4 years.
This year I am running for the Office of Vice President and look forward to serving in that position with your support.
Susan Salley, Candidate For Secretary
A Little about Me

I appreciate being nominated for the Secretary position for ODSC. I plan to work diligently and serve the club to the best of my ability. I am looking forward to making new friends and getting to know some others better.
I am a Carolina girl spending my youth in Orangeburg, SC and learned to shag dance at an early age from my dad and mom. They met while dancing and were known for their talents. Shag Dancing is in my blood.
I raised my beautiful family in Rock Hill, SC. I have two children, a son and a daughter, and one granddaughter who is attending the College of Charleston. They all have a great appreciation and a love of music. I moved to Ocean Drive in 2013 to dance and enjoy beach life. It is truly Paradise.
I majored in Business Education at Winthrop University and taught high school business classes for 36 years in Lancaster, SC, York, SC and Charlotte, NC. I also enjoyed working with adults at York Technical College and Winthrop University. While living in Rock Hill, SC I received my MAT degree and MEd degree from Winthrop. I also achieved National Board Certification.
The old commercial about “Stay in School” was true for me. I have a passion for helping others and I believe in lifelong learning.
When I moved to the beach, I decided to pursue another career that was on my bucket list. I enrolled in courses to help me obtain my Real Estate License. It was difficult, as I was a little older, but I have a great sense of accomplishment and this decision has reaped great rewards for me. I have helped others achieve their goal of owning property at the beach and I have made many new friends.
My hobbies include traveling and dancing. Reading and walking on the beach is a favorite pastime.

Beth Cornwell, Candidate For Treasurer
I am Beth Cornwell and I am running for the office of Treasurer of the O D Shag Club. Since joining the club in 2012, I have tried to be very active in the club through supporting activities such as monthly events, parades, golf tournament, helping sell golf cart tickets as well as Ways and Means merchandise, attending Myrtle Beach Manor activities, and helping with Clean Sweep.
Participating in the Pub Crawls and Beach Parties are two of my favorite things to do. I have served as Chairperson of the Ways and Means Committee and the Hospitality Committee.
This past year I have served as Secretary of the shag club, as well as holding that office in 2020. I have had experience with the office of treasurer as I held that position in 2016.
Before moving to North Myrtle Beach, we lived in Charlotte where I was born and where we raised our 3 children. I spent 36 years in the education field as both a teacher and assistant principal, mainly in the middle school years. Our children left the area when they were finished with their schooling, so we moved to North Myrtle Beach when we retired in 2012.
I love living at the beach and being in the OD Shag Club. I would like to serve as Treasurer of the OD Shag Club next year, so please give me your vote and support.

Al Cosgrove, Candidate For At Large Board Of Directors
Hi, I’m Al Cosgrove.
I have just completed two years on the OD Shag club board of directors. My duties have included selling 50-50 tickets and getting sponsorships for the golf tournament. I’ve helped sell golf cart tickets, Fun Monday tickets, and done anything I could do to help our club. I have also been involved in supporting the Junior Shaggers.
I am looking forward to the next two years. It would be my pleasure and honor to serve this board for another term.

Donald Nelson May, Candidate For At Large Board Of Directors
My name is Donald Nelson May. My wife Sharon and I have lived off and on in North Myrtle Beach since 1990. Ocean Drive is always calling us back.
I am a retired financial advisor having spent the majority of my professional life at Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner and Smith. As such, I dealt with many different personalities, individuals, and organizations handling not only their assets, but also their financial lives. I held that responsibility in very high regard and always put their interest’s first.
I believe my past experiences may be of benefit to the club as a board member and look forward to assisting wherever I am needed. I also served on different advisory and board positions over the past 50 years with different private companies and organizations.
I served in the United States Navy during Vietnam and afterwards I attended the University of North Carolina Wilmington.
Fishing and boating are my passions. I currently hold a 100 ton Masters Coast Guard Captains License and have run fishing and diving charters since 1976. I fish local tournaments and my wife and I both love being on the water.
Beach music, shagging, and the whole North Myrtle Beach environment and OD Shag club culture have become a large part of our lives and serving on the board would be a great honor for me.
