The first official 2016 OD SHAG CLUB event of the year, “Mid Winter Brunch”, was held at OD Arcade on Sunday, January 17, 2016 @ 10-12 AM.
Our new President, Ms. Monica Powell, opened the morning welcoming everyone including new members to this event. Monica reviewed our clubs future events as follows:
January 30, 2016 – CLEAN SWEEP will be @ 8:30am at the Pavilion at the Horseshoe
February 2, 2016 – BOARD MEETING @ 6:00pm at Fat Harold’s back room (Everyone is welcome)
February 20, 2016 – WORLD FAMOUS OYSTER ROAST @ 6:00pm at OD Arcade
Monica also announced two of our own members were honored at the Mid Winter meeting:
DONNIE SCHULTZ was appointed as the new SOS PARADE CHAIRMAN beginning 2017
PAUL HARRISON was elected as a SOS ICON AWARD member
Our welcoming committee signed in 172 members and 8 guests to our brunch and Donnie Schultz, Food Committee Chairman, along with Chris of OD Arcade provided a great breakfast of scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits, and fruit for our enjoyment
Kathy McCoy, Entertainment Committee Chairman, coordinated a fantastic Shag dance demonstration provided by the Carolina Shag Junior Shag Team. Money donations during the young couples demonstration totaled over $1,000…Thank you to all whom donated to allow these young individuals to continue to promote our dance.
Our Ways and Means team sold $936 of OD Shag merchandise
Name Tag winner of $25.00 was Bill Bacon who donated his winnings to the Carolina Junior Shag Team.
50/50 Winners of $220 were Phil & Brenda Tomlinson who donated their winnings to the Carolina Junior Shag Team.

The OD Shag Club sponsored 8 children from 2 families this year for Christmas. Clothing and toys were purchased for each child. Members of the club brought non-perishable food items to the club’s Christmas party, which was then divided between the two families. We would like to thank those who brought food that night and helped to make a very Merry Christmas for these kids and their families. Attached is a message from one of the families that we helped:
