My name is Vickie Parsons, and it is with great pleasure that I announce my desire to run for the office of Treasurer of the OD Shag Club.
I’m currently a resident of Shallotte, NC after relocating from Asheboro, NC in 1984. I’m fortunate to work for the Dunes Club in Myrtle Beach as their Administrative/Accounting Assistant, and just celebrated my 20th year of employment.
I have been a member of the OD Shag Club for 12 years. In my earlier years, I served on the Entertainment Committee and Membership Hospitality Committee. Also, back in the day I was responsible for the actual mailing to over 700 members the monthly newsletter. This was accomplished with the help of Phil and Mimi Benedict and Paul and Vickie Harrison. Most recently, I served on the SOS Spring Safari Parade committee and volunteered my time as needed.
Music and dance has been a passion of mine since a very young age. As a young person, my beach/shagging fun was experienced in Carolina/Kure Beach and not until 1998 did I experience the wonderful shagging life in N. Myrtle Beach and the OD Shag Club.
If given the opportunity, I will serve as your Treasurer with honor and integrity and continue to preserve with everyone else the dance we all love. . . . “The Shag”

Also we appreciate everyone that helped out throughout the night!
It was great seeing everyone up and dancing and staying out a little later.
See you on the dance floor!
I have been nominated to serve as President of the OD Shag Club. I have been active in the shag world for most of my adult life. I am from Camden, SC. I moved to the beach in 2013. As a member of several shag clubs I feel that I have many attributes to enhance the direction of the OD Shag Club. While living in Camden/Lugoff area I was a member of the class shag club for 20 years. In 2008/2011, I served as President of the Camden/Lugoff shag club for a period of 4 years. We were invited to Brightwater Independent Living at Brightwater in Myrtle Beach to dance for their residents at their event called “Splash”. We met with the Director of Member Services Wendy Gatzke and she also invited us to be a part of the bi-monthly activities and dance the “Shag” Dance.
She asked us to come early and listen to the Steel Drums demonstration. Several of the Dance Team Members arrived early to listen to the Steel Drums. WOW how exciting was this. Tim (his first day of retirement from the school system) played for about an hour. It sounded as though we were on a Jamaican Island. What a treat! He explained the evolution of the Steel Drums and how he became interested in them. He was a great entertainer. We also had virgin Pina Coladas during the entertainment, as this was a casual event.
As part of the Splash activities lunch was provided to the residents and to our dance team while listening to a keyboard DJ of which we were going to be dancing to. They wore their fancy summer hats and came to have fun.
Along side of us were the Surfside Steppers, who line danced for the residents. The Dance Team joined in. We had a great time. These ladies also danced to the keyboard DJ and danced several line dances.
This was a unique event in that we did not spot light dance. We just danced to the music as played by the keyboard DJ. We also were able to dance with the residents since all of them were able to move around pretty well. I was honored to dance with a 97-year young lady. She had some pep to her step. She was an original jitterbug lady.
I would like to thank Wendy and the dance team members for participating in this event: Diane and Bill Millman, Lou Martino, Linda Campbell, Jay Kellerman, Barbara Hopper, Donna and Burnie Williams, Susan Male, Cathy and Rich Jamiolkowski, Linda Wilson, and Lenny Gardner.
I joined the shag club in 2011 and started to help my sister Cassy on the decorating committee for that year. The following year I helped out in Hospitality and loved it. I took a year off and then became Co-Chair with Elaine and the following year I was Hospitality Chair and still running Hospitality as of today.
I have helped out with several events. I’ve helped clean up my first few Oyster Roasts, Clean sweeps, Golf Tournaments, Myrtle Beach Manor, and Just went to my first ACSC workshop with our shag group.
My name is Bob Miller and I am running for the office of Board Member at Large for the ODSC. My wife, Linda and I built a home in Seabrook Plantation in North Myrtle Beach a year ago and moved here permanently. Before that, we had a second home here in Sea Garden where I served as a board member of the HOA for 10 years. I served in many capacities of the Moore Area Shag Society including serving as President for two terms. I am a past Exalted Ruler of the Sanford and Southern Pines Elks Lodges, past NC state Elks fund raising chairman and am currently serving as NC state Elks Drug Awareness Chairman. I have been a member of the ODSC for approximately 12 years. I have helped with the Oyster Roast for several years and the food committee. I have helped with the golf cart fundraiser ticket sales for about 5 years and have helped support the golf tournament through the years. As a board member at large I will look forward to bringing members concerns to the board and helping with the club endeavors to benefit our club and the community. I am also proud to be a US veteran. Thank you for this opportunity.
I am very pleased and honored to have been asked by the Nominating Committee to run for the Board of the OD Shag Club.
We have participated in every parade since moving here in 2012. We have also helped with Ways & Means by selling 50/50 tickets, manning the booths for merchandise sales and golf cart tickets. I have also worked at the Golf Tournament each year. We take pride in being active members and attend and participate in as many ODSC events as possible.
I have served as Parade Chairman in 2015 and am currently Chairman of the Golf Cart Fundraiser.
We have had a home in NMB since 1988 and spent quite a bit of time in the area. My wife and I sold our home in Weddington, NC and moved to NMB full time in 2012. One of the firs things we did was join the OD Shag Club. We have been members of the Monroe Shag Club for many years and understand and appreciate the camaraderie of being a member of vibrant shag club.
As a member of the Monroe Shag Club, I served in the following capacities:
• President
• Vice President
• SOS Parade Chair – 5 years
• Ways & Means Chairperson
• Chairman of the Monroe Shag Club Foundation
• Vice-Chairman of the Monroe Shag Club Foundation
Hey everyone,
Last weekend, Google made a change to their Gmail program. Even if you have been receiving emails from Faye Chowning (ODSC) in the past, they now seem to be going to your Spam or Junk folder. Faye sent at least 3 emails in the past week. I will be printing something to give out on Saturday as people check in, but here are the instructions on how to fix it.
IMPORTANT NOTICE TO ALL ODSC MEMBERS USING GMAIL
Last week, Google made several changes to email. The result is that the emails sent to you from the ODSC (Faye Chowning) are now being put into SPAM or JUNK. Even if you were receiving them before, the changes Google made have them going to SPAM or JUNK. Here is the best way to fix it:
· Go to SPAM or JUNK and find an email from Faye Chowning. There are several that were sent last week.
· Open the email.
· Above the message is a box called NOT SPAM. Click on the box. It will move the message to your inbox.
· This should fix the problem for 2016.
I would ask that you go out and see if you were affected. Also, notify any of your ODSC friends that you know that use Gmail.
This could cause a pretty big problem. It will be hard to let everyone know since sending them an email will not work!
Thanks
Monica

The dance team was invited to dance for the residents of Summit Place Assisted Living Facility located in Little River, SC. This has become an annual event for the Team as we have danced here for the last three years. We have always been welcomed at this facility. A big thank you goes out to Genevieve Prince for having us.
As the residents were wheeled into the activities room, the members of the team were able to mingle with them. They stated that they were so excited to see us dance again. Many of the residents remembered us from last year. It is such a pleasure to see their smiling faces.
Here we danced to our own music and spot lighted each dance. Each couple danced for 1 minute and 30 seconds just long enough to keep the residents interested. It is nice to see the residents clapping and enjoying themselves for the hour that we danced for them. As a matter of fact, we were asked to stay a little longer and dance some more and we did.
We have a great team one that enjoys dancing and most importantly loves to promote and preserve the Shag Dance. The Team also likes to go into the various assisted living facilities not only to dance for themselves but also to dance for others that are not able to.
Thanks to Summit Place for the invite. As you can see the Dance Team is growing. I would also like to thank the members of the team that participated at Summit Place:
Bill and Diane Millman, Connie Livingston, Lenny Gardner, James Thorndyke, Cherie Patalik, Susan Male, Jimmy Harley, Donna and Burnie Williams, Judy Odom, Barbara Hopper, Jay Kellerman, Diane Tindall, Linda Campbell, and Lou Martino.

The OD Shag Dance Team was asked to dance for the residents of Brightwater Assisted Living, one area of the Brightwater Facility. A big thank you goes out to Jo Ann Tufo, the Activities Director for the Assisted Living Facility. Jo Ann was a great help in organizing this event.
This is just one section of Brightwater. The facility is very large and has many different sections to it. Today we danced in the assisted living area. The setting reminds one of an outdoor café. The residents were pushed into the area of the dance floor. This was our first time at this facility and we were welcomed very warmly, not only by Jo Ann, but the residents themselves.
I would like to thank those members of the dance team that danced at Brightwater Assisted Living:
Jimmy Harley, Judy Odom, Cherie Patalik, James Thorndyke, Linda Wilson, Vic Gillispie, Connie Livingston, Burnie and Donna Williams, Diane and Bill Millman, Barbara Hopper, Lenny Gardner, Laura Hardee, Jay Kellerman, Cathy and Rich Jamiolkowski, Randy Overby, Linda Campbell and Lou Martino.
