On October 8, 2019 the OD Shag Club Dance Team was asked to dance at the Inaugural Georgetown County Boomer Bash being held at the Precious Blood Church of Christ in Pawleys Island, SC. From 10:00am-1:00pm.
The team, along with approximately 40 vendors, entertained at the expo, dancing at 11:00am and again 12:00pm, showing those who were visiting the exhibition hall that seniors can be active and healthy in their “mature” years.
When the team was not dancing, we were able to visit the other vendors and were treated to some amazing samples of healthy foods, information on retirement communities, investment opportunities in retirement years, banking opportunities for seniors and much much more.
Those who attended really enjoyed seeing us “showcase” our beloved dance and a few even wanted us to teach them the basic. The team that were there to dance were: Cathy and Rich Jamiolkowski, Connie and Jim Livingston, Ted Sobol and Callie White, Bonnie and Mike Bejzak, Barbara Hopper, Barry Dyer and Linda Campbell.
A special thanks goes out to Julie Dyer with the Georgetown County Chamber of Commerce for our invitation to attend and from what we have heard, she believes there is going to be another “Bash” next year and we have a standing invite to come back next year!!!

I am very pleased and honored to have been asked by the Nominating Committee to run for President of the OD Shag Club.
I have served as a Board Member of the ODSC for 2 years and I am currently serving as Vice President of the ODSC. I have been the Parade Chairman for years 2015, 2017 2018, and 2019 and the Chairman of the Golf Cart Fundraiser in 2016. We have participated in every parade since moving here in 2012. We have also helped with Ways & Means by selling 50/50 tickets, manning the booths for merchandise sales and golf cart tickets. I have also worked at the Golf Tournament each year. We take pride in being active members and attend and participate in as many ODSC events as possible.
We have had a home in NMB since 1988 and spent quite a bit of time in the area. My wife and I sold our home in Weddington, NC and moved to NMB full time in 2012. One of the firs things we did was join the OD Shag Club. We have been members of the Monroe Shag Club for many years and understand and appreciate the camaraderie of being a member of vibrant shag club.
As a member of the Monroe Shag Club, I served in the following capacities:
• Vice President
• SOS Parade Chair – 5 years
• Ways & Means Chairperson
• Chairman of the Monroe Shag Club Foundation
• Vice-Chairman of the Monroe Shag Club Foundation
Hi, my name is John Setzer. After retiring from CVS/Caremark Pharmacy with over 30 years of service I moved to North Myrtle Beach with my wife Lori Setzer in 2015. While living in Lewisville, NC, I was an active member of the Greater Triad Shag Club from 2008 – 2016 helping with the Ways and Means Committee and attending the ASCS meeting in Jacksonville, FL in 2012. I also served on the Board 2012 – 2013. I joined the ODSC in 2014 and have been active in helping sell ODSC merchandise and golf cart tickets during SOS and other events. Along with my wife, I have been a member of the ODSC Dance Team since 2016 where we have enjoyed showcasing the dance to others. I also helped build the SOS Parade float 2017 and participated in the dance troupe for the parade.
Before retiring, I had the privilege of holding numerous leadership roles in pharmacy:
Our love of the music and dance brought us here. My wife and I regularly dance and love to help others as they begin shagging. I would like to serve as a member of the Board to help give back to the club and support the dance we all love. Your vote would be greatly appreciated.
I have been a member of OD Shag Club since 2012. Since then my husband and I have participated in almost every parade event since then. We have loved being in the Christmas parades, St Patrick’s Day parades and the SOS parades. We have also helped with the preparation of food for many of the club events and helped with several of the Clean sweep events. During 2019 I have served as chair person of the Hospitality Committee and I’m sure you have seen me as you checked into club events. In 2015 I served as Treasurer for the Shag Club and chaired the Ways and Means committee in 2014. If elected, I look forward to again working with the Board of the OD Shag Club and its members to make it the best Shag club possible.
My name is Lou Garrenton and I am running for the office of Treasurer because I love my OD Shag club family and want to support the club in any way I can.
I have been a member of the OD Shag club for almost 21 years. I have served on many committees during these years including
Co-Chairman of Entertainment and Decorations for two years.
Before retiring I owned a computer programming business for over 30 years, specializing in custom accounting applications. I have been an accountant for over 40 years, and am still doing corporate and individual taxes .
In have been your treasurer for the past year and have enjoyed working for our club.
Hello everyone. I am Donna Williams and I am running for the open board seat after serving 2 years as secretary. I have so enjoyed the position of secretary but due to the fact that 2 terms is all I can serve, I hope to remain as a board member to keep my connection to such a great group of people.
My husband Burnie and I live in Waterfall in Little River. I am a South Carolina Realtor who loves and sells the North end of the Strand. The dance and the opportunity of the dance lifestyle is what brought us to this area full time in 2011 originally from VA by way of Ft Myers Fl. My career included running the business office and admission office of 2 medical facilities in Charlottesville VA and then 27 years there with the Social Security Office as an instructor, a claims specialist and retiring as a claims expert. I spent 5 years as a Re/Max agent in Fort Myers before moving to this area. I am also beginning a 3rd 2 year term as a board member of the Waterfall Property Owners Association serving as Secretary.
“All she wants to do is dance” is my passion. I have been a dancer as long as I can remember. As a member of the board, I have worked with Ways & Means, the golf cart tournament, clean sweep, helped with many of our events in various capacities and am a member of the demo dance team. As members of the dance team, we do all that we can to promote the OD Shag club, the dance and the lifestyle. We dance most Wednesdays and Fridays at Fat Harold’s and make it a point to be ambassadors of the club to the many visitors that we meet. As a member of the board, I hope to be able to serve the needs of the club and its members and to add to my ability to promote the club and preserve the dance and the wonderful lifestyle.
My name is Joe Harrill. My wife and I have lived in North Myrtle Beach for 2 years. My working career consisted of Director of Human Resources and Safety for several manufacturing firms in North and South Carolina. While working in this field, I was selected to speak at several National HR & Safety conferences in the US. I was on the HR Board of Directors for the American Furniture Manufacturers Association in High Point, NC. I am currently performing some consulting part-time and also working at a golf course part-time.
I have been a member of the OD Shag Club for 2 years and have loved every minute of it. I have volunteered and sold golf cart tickets, OD Shag club merchandise, helped Terry with his culinary efforts and assisted with the golf cart modification s for the parade. While living in Morganton, NC for 17 years, I was treasurer of the Sandy Beach Shag Club, and along with Robin Morley, Alan Brown and the late Deanes Short, we reenergized the club. .
I have been dancing for 20 years, but always try to learn a better way to do it. My wife and I usually dance 3 times a week and have taken lessons from Tina and Sonny through the OD Shag Club. We can never stop learning! We are fortunate to live here in North Myrtle Beach and enjoy supporting the shag club and its membership. For these reasons I seek your support as a new board member and will serve the membership in a positive and productive manner.
The ODSC Dance Team was invited to the USS Bang Navy Reunion October 3, 2019.
USS Bang (SS-385) was a United States Navy Balao-class submarine, named after the bang, a dark blue or black fish of the Atlantic herring family found in the coastal waters of the United States north of North Carolina. Bang was laid down on 30 April 1943 at Kittery, Maine, by the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard; launched on 30 August 1943, sponsored by Mrs. Robert W. Neblett; and commissioned on 4 December 1943, Lieutenant Commander Antone R. Gallaher in command.
The Dance Team met at the Ocean Reef Resort, 7100 Ocean Blvd, Myrtle Beach,SC at 6:30 PM waiting for the members of the USS Bang to finish their dinner since their meeting ran overtime.
We entered the conference room of over 100 members of the USS Bang and were introduced as the ODSC Dance Team by Jennifer Wilson our POC.
After a brief history of the Shag Club and the Shag Dance by our spokes person Linda Campbell, the team was introduced.
Each ODSC Dance Team couple danced their different styles for a minute and a half to their favorite song.
Since Jennifer hired their own DJ Wayne Cribb, Lou Martino made a CD for the DJ to play for the dancers. Thanks to the DJ for playing for the Dance Team.
Following the demonstration the members of the USS Bang were invited to come to the floor and learn the Shag Dance. They were very enthusiastic and enjoyed the basic steps of the Shag Dance.
After the event, the Dance Team was invited to stay and enjoy a delicious Prime Rib dinner. Thank you USS Bang for feeding the Dance Team.
A big thank you goes out to Jennifer Wilson for the invite to this event and the DJ Wayne Cribb for playing the music for this event.
Special thanks to the members of the ODSC Dance Team for dancing:
Ted Sobol, Callie White, Donna and Burnie Williams, Bill and Diane Millman Barbara Hopper, Mike and Bonnie Bejzak, John and Lori Setzer, Linda Campbell and Lou Martino
