The OD Shag Club was given the names of 5 families with a total of 8 children from Riverside Elementary School who needed a good Christmas. With the donations of $115.00 from the members of the OD Shag Club, $155.00 from the ODSC Dance Team, $200.00 from Dale Clements (by the way Dale joined the club that very night) and the extra discount donated by Belk’s, we were able to get jackets, 2 outfits, underwear, socks and shoes for each child. Plus, we were able to get most of the items from their wish lists. Cindy Day, Cassy Shumway, Tina Tomberlin and Beth Cornwell helped me shop for the clothes. With the rest of the money, Tina and Beth helped me shop for the wish list items and wrap all the presents. The group from 5thAve. (Bill and Joan Bacon, Terry and Debbie Holmes, Charles and Brenda McArthur, Jerry and Linda Harrell, Susan Rasmussen and Pat Johnson) donated the bicycle, helmet and lock that was on one wish list.
Saturday night, Rich Young, Charles McArthur and Larry Jones collected the food and monetary donations in front of Fat Harold’s. Thanks to the generosity of our club members for donating all the cans and boxes of food. We were able to fill the van full of food. To see what was donated see pictures of this event on the website. Thank you to all the members that participated in this drive for the Christmas Families.
Sunday morning, the following members: Monica and Billy Powell, Bill and Joan Bacon, Lou Martino, Linda Campbell, Sandy Cummings, John and Lori Setzer, Donna and Bernie Williams, Tina and Sonny Tomberlin, Terry and Kathy McCoy and Mike and Bonnie Bejzak met at our home to sort and box the donated food for the five families. Linda and Lou shopped at BI-LO for the turkeys, hams, and other perishable items needed with the donated money. BI-LO gave us a discount on the turkeys and hams.
Monday morning with the help of Lou Martino, Linda Campbell, Bill Bacon, Bernie Williams, John Setzer, Mike and Bonnie Bejzak, we delivered the food and gifts to the school for distribution to the families. The school counselor, Felicia, told me how much they appreciate what we do for these kids and their families each year.
Merry Christmas and a healthy and happy New Year,

There will be many more children having a joyful Christmas by the generosity of the many friends and neighbors of Horry County, North Myrtle Beach and the surrounding area.
Since the OD Shag donated to “Toys for Tots” in North Myrtle Beach Saturday Night from 5PM to 11PM at the Spanish Galleon several of the members of the OD Shag Club attended the “O.D. Locals 2018 Christmas Party. The donation from the club allowed us to be in the sponsor category.
As sponsors of this event, we were able to get in the doors at 5PM. At the door was David Smith. Each of us had a band around our wrist as sponsors, with that for the sponsors there were free drinks and food for an hour.
At 6PM the locals were invited in for free food. The room began to fill. The food was great: beef, chicken, sides, salads, fruits and vegetables. There was music playing as all the sponsors were displayed on overhead TV’s.
Anyone can be a sponsor just check with David Smith
At 6PM everyone went over to the ballroom where Gary Lowder & Smokin’ Hot Band was playing. Also playing that night was Fred Thomas of the James Brown Band and Allie Privette.
Pictures for this event will be on our website (just a few) more pictures can be seen on OD Mafia.
Normally there are Marines that take part in this event, however, they were unable to make it this year.
It was a great event, one that the OD Shag Club should sponsor next year.

Reds and Greens, Silver and Gold, Black and White were the colors being seen as the members of the OD Shag Club began checking into Fat Harold’s Beach Club for their Annual Christmas Celebration. Everyone was dressed in his or her Christmas Best. There were even a couple of Santa’s Elves there (aka Wayne and Kathryn Wooten).
As serving staff and the OD Shag Club Food Volunteers were getting the food set up, the greatest Shag Christmas tunes could be heard from the DJ Stand being played by guest DJ and Charter Member Gary Bass.
President Linda Campbell began the event by welcoming everyone and gave a few “housekeeping instructions” as to how the food would be served in the back. After instructions, she announced all the Committee Chairs and Board Members, thanking them for a wonderful job well done during 2018 and giving them a well-deserved certificate. After she completed giving out those certificates, Bill Bacon presented Linda Campbell with her President’s jacket.
Once the food from Carrabba’s was set up a food color was called and the lines began to form for those anticipating the Christmas Meal. Wow! The food was incredible with a variety of pasta from Chicken Marsala to Penne Pasta and Meatballs. Of course, with any Italian meal there MUST be CANOLI’s!!!
The dance floor began to fill as the members finished their meal and began to dance “some of their food” off. Gary Bass kept playing all our favorites and everyone looked to be having a great time.
As time was ending, the drawing for the Name tag and Logo was done. Kathryn Wooten and Eddie Robinson were the lucky winners of the night.
As Linda Campbell was closing out the night she thanked everyone who brought canned goods for our families however if they didn’t bring food they can give a donation. A gentleman, Dale Clements, came forward and handed her two $100 bills and said “Give this to the Children”! Wow! Seems everyone was surprised and there were tears in many eyes including the President, Linda Campbell. What a blessing that was as it gave us a final total to spend for Christmas dinners and dry goods for the families of $475 (including $150 donated by the OD Shag Club dance team as well…thanks guys and gals)! Turns out that Mr. Clements also joined the OD Shag Club that night as well…Whoopee!!
As the night closed out, President Linda Campbell thanked each one again for all their support and encouragement to her as President for 2018 and asked each one to turn to their neighbor and say “MERRY CHRISTMAS AND GOD BLESS US EVERYONE!”

THANK YOU, THANK YOU and THANK YOU, to all the members of the club who came out and attended this event. You not only attended, your participation and interaction with the residents MADE THE EVENING THE SUCCESS IT WAS.
A special thanks to Pat Folds and her junior shaggers who were a big hit with the residents, Jon Harris who volunteered his services as photographer, Jimmy Buffkin who was our DJ for the evening, Paul and Gail Craver, Bill and Sheila Seymore, John Barringer and last but not least Bill and Diane Millman, aka Santa and Christmas Carol.
I know I have said this in the past, but I will say it one more time “THIS WAS THE BEST MB MANOR CHRISTMAS EVENT THE CLUB HAS EVER PUT ON”. The participation by the members and the residents was exceptional. The smiles on the faces of the residents, was very heart warming, and I thank each and every one of you. In all the years that I have been the MB Manor Chair I have never seen the participation, smiles and gratitude by the residents, as I did last night.
In closing, I can only say THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
